Inspired by the line: "your father has never brandished a sword nor... nor fired a pistol, thank heavens. But he has made many sacrifices for his family, and put away many dreams." But what are these dreams?

I want always to be a boy and have fun!

I want to stay in Neverland and fight Indians and pirates and fly! I want to see the fairies dancing and have magnificent battles with Captain Hook. I am a great swordsman; I'm better than anyone! Those awful pirates don't stand a chance against me! My happy thought is my own innocence. I am the best there ever was. I don't need feelings. I don't need a mother. I don't want to be a father, or work in an office. I want always to be a boy and to have fun! I will never grow up, never be old, never die, never, never, never. I will not go to bed. I will not take my medicine. I will not have a bath. I am youth. I am innocence. I am child.

You can't catch me and make me a man.

Mr Darling sighs as he forces the drawer closed.
