Okay, so this is just a little short thing I came up with. I hope you enjoy it. So no one is confused, it does refer to Hungary as a boy at first, but that is to make the story flow. So enjoy. Review. Oh and before I forget, I don't own Hetalia and never will.
"Come on Eli!" Gilbert called over his shoulder to his slower friend.
"I'm coming Gil! I had to protect your back side from that crazy cop." the other called back.
Gilbert ran a few more paces before coming to stop in front of an oak tree. He leaned back on the trunk to catch his breath and wait for Eli. When the albino's brown haired friend finally caught up, he flashed him one of his trademark smirks.
"See how awesome I am, Eli?" Gilbert exclaimed rather loudly. "I got us a piece of bread to share." He waved the prize in front of the other's suddenly ravenous face.
Eli lunged at his friend and tackled him to the ground. There was a short scuffle which ended with Gilbert on the ground and Eli sitting on top of him, bread in hand.
"Get off!" the albino boy shouted, struggling.
"No, I don't think I will." Eli said, taking a big bite of the bread.
"That's half mine, you know?" Gilbert protested.
Eli laughed and stood up to walk back into the shade of the tree. He tore away half the bread and handed it to his friend when he walked up beside him. Both boys dropped to the ground and continued to eat.
They had met several years ago. Both were living on the streets, orphaned and completely alone in the world. The Prussian boy was a skilled pickpocket and thief while Eli could outfight most grown men even though he was only a pre-teen himself. A struggle for survival had eventually turned into a friendship. Together, they looked after each other. One team standing against the world.
They both finished eating and continued to sit there until the sun was starting to set. As the first stars showed in the navy tinted sky, Eli looked over at the albino boy beside him.
"Should we find somewhere to sleep tonight?" he asked.
"No." answered Gilbert thoughtfully. "I think we should stay here. It's nice and shaded. The night's pretty warm, so we won't get too cold. Besides, we've been walking for two days and I'm tired."
"But, we're out in the open." Eli protested. "Anyone that walked up would see us. Are you sure it's safe?"
"What's the worst that could happen? We get robbed? Great, we don't have nothing worth stealing."
"You sure, Gil?"
"Positive."
"Fine, we'll do it your way tonight."
Gilbert flashed the other a wide grin then settled down next to the tree. Eli watched him for a minute, before leaning his head back against the tree trunk and letting his green eyes slide closed.
Gilbert turned over and looked up at his friend. A small smile came to his lips as his eyes observed the other boy. Well, actually not a boy. Gilbert knew something about Eli that he didn't even know himself yet. Eli was a girl. How she didn't know this fact was a mystery to the Prussian, but at the end of the day he didn't really care.
The two had been running together for several years and he didn't plan on letting a little gender confusion get in the way of that. Even if he did want her to come to the realization on her own, Gil knew he would eventually have to tell her.
He rolled onto his back and stared up at the stars glistening overhead. "Well, I'll just deal with it later." he told himself quietly. His eyes closed and he drifted into unconsciousness as his friend had moments ago. The two would have their whole lives ahead of them tomorrow, as long as the world kept turning and they stuck together. He knew they could conquer anything together. An unstoppable force. Gilbert and Eli. Together forever.
