Souls POV

Another day spent in this carnival of souls

It was quiet, empty, deserted. He stared around, seeing the dark, lithe forms of his fallen comrades, his friends, lying around him, bloodied, still, gone.

And its almost like your heavens trying everything, your heavens trying everything, to keep me out

His breath came out in ragged gasps, the pain overwhelming him. "W-where ... Where is s-she?" he muttered, trying to get up but unable to move due to the ragged hole in his side.

All the places I've been and things I've seen

Suddenly thousands of colors slammed down into his dark world, painting everything a shade of scarlet, a piercing, enticing, horrific, beautiful, staining, scary color. He gasped; snapping his head from person to person, recognizing each, and his hopes only further plunging with each splash of sanguine red.

A million stories that made up a million shattered dreams

He'd known the consequences of trying this, of taking this fight; but he'd never even dreamed of it being this bad. "This ... T-this can't be happening. N-No ... No ... "he gasped, horrified.

The faces if people I'll never see again, and I can't seem to find my way home

He managed to get up, ignoring the fire eating at his lungs, and started stumbling around, looking for that one person, that one girl. He finally spotted what looked like a black coat, and a splash of yellow, in contrast with all the black and red.

And its almost like your heavens trying everything to break me down

"W-why ... Why ... WHY?" he screamed, his face contorted in rage and grief. "WHY NOT ME?!"

He hunched over, burying his face in the crook of her neck, and let his tears flow into her used-to-be-yellow-but-is-now-mostly-red shirt.

And its almost like your heavens trying everything to keep me out

"M-Maka ... Why did you have to leave me? Why didn't you let me protect you? It's my job you MORON! That's what I do as a weapon! WHY didn't you let me do my job?!" He sobbed his voice choked and hoarse. His red eyes now rimmed with red and his clothes and hands sticky with her blood, he stood, carrying the pale girl across the barren landscape.

Your heavens trying everything, your heavens trying everything, to break me down

"M-Maka ... Maka ... Why did you leave me? Why?" he murmured, tears still flowing and fresh grief filling his eyes. He slumped to the ground, his legs giving under him from their combined weight. "Maka ..." he murmured, letting his eyes close, weary and full of sorrow. "Maka …" his words echoed around the empty yard, dull and full of pain.
