McMurphey's Bar

Sitting on a bar stool, Harmon Rabb Jr. drifted away in his thoughts. Looking over at the pool table a little way away from his perch, Harm watched his closest friends play pool. Watching Bud with his arms around Harriet, showing her how to shoot properly, and her semi-embarrassed laugh made Harm sigh. Why couldn't he be happy? Watching Mac standing there with her legs crossed at the ankles, and leaning lightly against a table made Harm sigh again. She is so beautiful. Why can't I let go? Is it really as simple as she says? Harm thought to himself, it should be easy letting go for Mac…

"Hey buddy. You alright?" Sturgis asked, jolting Harm out of his sadistic contemplation.

"Huh?" Harm said still thinking, "Uh, yeah. I'm ok."

Still skeptical, Sturgis asked, "Daydreaming about Mac?"

"No, Sturgis. There's nothing between us!" Harm said almost wistfully.

"Then forget it."

"I can't!"

"Why not?"

"Because I love her!"

Sturgis leaned back, seeming satisfied, "So the truth comes out."

"Alright, Sturgis," Harm sighed, "if you're so smart, then, what am I supposed to do now?"

"That's for you, and only you to figure out," Sturgis grinned, walking over to the pool table.

Watching Harm think is fun Mac thought to herself.

"Hi Mac," Sturgis said

"Hi Sturgis," Mac said, distracted.

"Something wrong?"

"No, I'm ok. I just wish a certain flyboy would get his head out of his six," Mac frowned and walked off.

Hmmm. Might not be too long until then, Mac; just wait…Sturgis said to himself after Mac stalked toward Harm and his gloomy atmosphere.

Mac walked across the bar to Harm and put her arm around his shoulder, "Hey Harm. Are you alright?"

"Yeah. Just thinking," he said a little disconnected.

Mac playfully straddled his waist, which sent a shiver up both of their spines. "Come on Harm. What's really wrong?"

Harm was about to respond when the bar stool fell forward with them on it. Everyone stopped what they were doing o see what happened.

"What happened?" the Admiral bellowed, but his jaw almost slammed on the floor when he saw Harm lying on Mac on the floor. Silence followed, and then Harm and Mac burst out laughing.

"What on earth happened, Harm?" Sturgis asked when people went back to their own business.

"It's called: Mac sat on me, then the stool fell over," Harm said, giving Mac a hand up. I liked it though…he thought.

"Right…" Sturgis eyed them suspiciously.
