SPOILER ALERT. Well, sort of, yes. This story takes place after Sion and Nezumi escape the facility and Sion is 'dead'. This is in the last episode, by the way. But I wanted to write about what would happen if Safu hadn't shown up singing and bringing Sion back to life. So, this will be a little sad.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own No. 6 or its characters.
Shion.
Shion was dead.
All Nezumi could do was just watch. Horror and sadness secretly engulfed him. Shion, his Shion, was dead.
The Dogkeeper broke him from his thoughts and tried to help him stand up. Nezumi shoved her away.
Don't touch me.
He fell to the ground and weakly crawled towards the snow white haired boy who rested peacefully on the cold warehouse ground.
"Once you've found something to protect, you've already lost!" The Dogkeeper's words were so familiar, so cruel, and yet so true.
If he has to die here, then I will too.
I can't leave him.
Nezumi kept crawling, not even noticing that the old man and the Dogkeeper had left the crumbling warehouse. He finally reached his beloved—yes, beloved. He loved Shion. He loved him so much, and now he would never know.
I'm sorry.
Nezumi gently placed his coat over Shion's face, some tears forming in his eyes as he did so. Singing softly, his voice shook and memories flooded his mind. When the two boys first met, the time they lived together, all up to now.
I can't take it anymore. I need to see your face.
The dark haired boy uncovered Shion's face.
Hey. Smile for me.
Of course he wouldn't get a response. The lifeless body that lay beside him could not obey his command.
Sion. Please.
Tears fell from Nezumi's eyes and hit Shion's pale cheeks.
Come back. Tell me to stop crying. Tell me everything will be better. Smile.
Don't let me cry. Don't die here.
WAKE UP!
…Nothing.
Nezumi became frustrated, but only at himself; at God or whoever is behind the death of his Shion. He couldn't sit upright anymore. He laid himself down and cautiously touched the other boy's hand.
Why… Why are you so cold?
The tears would not stop flowing from Nezumi's eyes. He grasped is hand in his own, lacing their fingers together.
You're used to be warm.
But, the boy was alive then. That night he rescued the young blue haired boy, his body was full of warmth.
A gentle kiss was then placed on Shion's pale, cold lips. The living kissed the dead.
A goodbye kiss for you.
Shion..
As the building protecting them crumbled slowly, the two bodies never moved. They lay there, hand in hand.
If you leave me, then I'll leave too. We die together.
"I love you..Shion.." Nezumi whispered.
He could have sworn he saw a tear escape the dead boy's eye.
He weakly touched Shion's face, stroking his cheek as his hand became limp soon after.
Nezumi's own flesh slowly lost its warmth. His own breath slowly ceased.
We die together.
