I'll Make a Liar Out of You

Amanda sat rooted in her spot next to Nick, who was slowly dying of poison. She had to make a quick decision. Grabbing the gun she aimed it at her fallen friend; closing her eyes, she pulled the trigger. A loud bang rang through her ears and she believed it caused the water to form in her eyes. Her heart on the other hand made a liar out of her.

'I shot him. I shot Nick. I shot him. I shot Nick.'

Amanda kept mumbling this mantra to herself, while watching the man lying in front of her.

All of a sudden Nick shot up taking in a deep breath. He pulled a hand to his chest where a pain resonated. Looking to Amanda he saw a gun lying in her hands.

'Amanda has a gun. I was dying of poison. No antidote. I am alive. I feel her next to me in my body… SHIT! SHE MADE ME IMMORTAL!'

Nick quietly walked out of the warehouse not even bothering to look back at the woman still sitting where he died. He had to get away from this situation.

Amanda walked back into her flat. She could feel another Immortal in there with her. She removed her sword out and set it down on the table and moved into the back. Seeing Nick sitting on his bed, she breathed out a sigh of relief, but fear quickly replace it. Slowly she shifted into the room waiting for an explosion of rage to happen. It had only been an hour since he had left the warehouse.

Amanda came and stood next to him, looking down on him, she realized that he was probably in shock.

"I died," he said so quietly Amanda almost didn't catch it.

"Yeah, I know," she breathed out, the rest coming rapidly, "I am so sorry. I should have let you make that decision."

"No, I don't think if I was in your place I could have asked you to choose."

Amanda waited a few minutes before she asked the question she needed to voice, "Did you want to die?" I know you expected to, but was it welcomed?"

"Yes, I expected to die."

'He wasn't ready yet,' she thought.

"It would have been welcomed."

Amanda looked at him incredulously, 'your lying.' She sat down next to him.

"I don't believe you," she whispered.

Nick finally looked at her, having stayed facing forward the entire time.

"What? Are you calling me a liar?"

"Never," she smiled lightly, then she turned serious, "I can hardly believe that you wanted to be dead. That you want to be somewhere where you couldn't feel this."

Lightly she placed her hand on the side of his face. Nick didn't flinch when she set her hand on his cheek nor when she softly moved her thumb. She suspected he would, but when he didn't it gave her the strength to continue.

"And you would never have felt this," she spoke in low tones as her head moved slowly to his until their lips met in a light chaste kiss.

"You made me into a liar," Nick whispered against her lips.

"So did you," Amanda smiled, "I didn't want to care so much."

"Neither did I," he said as Amanda slid gently closer to him.

"What about you? Did you want to die when Fielding wanted revenge against you?"

"I've lived a very long time Nick, I've accepted that I will die, and I'm not afraid to."

Nick turned her head towards him and this time Nick kissed her, except his held passion and … something else.

"I love you, Amanda," he spoke after neither could breathe anymore.

"Seems we insist on making each other into liars."

"Excuse me?"

Amanda laughed at him when she saw he mistook her meaning.

"I love you too. I don't want to die, and I didn't then because I never would have known you like I do now."

Nick pulled Amanda into his arms, intent on showing that they had a lot more to find out.
