Almost the Man

By: Jasper03

Dean chucked his shirt to the side and turned the shower water on. He stood in front of the bathroom mirror as he waited for the water to heat up. Months after returning from Hell his muscle mass had returned he was almost the man he had been before being dragged into the Pit.

"You like what you see, Dean?"

Dean flinched as he stared at his reflection. The reflected Dean cocked an eyebrow, waiting for reality Dean to answer.

"Do you see yourself as others do, handsome and self-assured or do you see your real self? The broken, self-despising wretch who tortured souls in Hell."

The hunter grasped the bathroom counter so hard it hurt. Hot tears formed in his eyes and slipped down his face.

"Which do you think Sam sees? Does he see the monster you are?" The reflection taunted.

"I'm not a monster."

"You sure Dean? Because in my book, mangling and torturing souls is what monsters do."

The man's shoulders shuddered as he sobbed. He wasn't a monster. He didn't want to do those things ever again. He wanted forgiveness from all those souls.

Dean jumped when he heard pounding on the bathroom door. "Dean hurry up! I want a shower too!"

He turned back to his reflection, which was just that, a reflection. He examined the reflection sadly; he was almost the man he was before Hell, but not completely.
