For Erica, Chell and Anne: The Creepers :)
Song For A Winters Night By Sara McLachlan
The lamp is burning low upon my table top the snow is softly falling
The air is still in the silence of my room I hear your voice softly calling
If I could only have you near to breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love on this winter night with you
The smoke is rising in the shadows overhead my glass is almost empty
I read again between the lines upon each page the words of love you sent me
If I could know within my heart that you were lonely too
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love on this winter night with you
The fire is dying, my lamp is growing dim, the shades of night are lifting
The morning light steals across my windowpane where webs of snow are drifting
If I could only have you near to breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love on this winter night with you
And to be once again with you To be once again with you
Catherine Willows walked into her house and tried to flick on the light "Shit" she cursed. The unusual snow fall in Las Vegas had knocked out her power. Grabbing the flashlight from her kit she walked to the hall closet. She pulled out an old oil lamp she kept stored there and lit it with a match. She sighed a heavy sigh. No TV, No computer, not even a radio to keep her mind occupied. Picking her mail up off of the floor she set it on the table and grabbed a glass of wine, deciding to go through some case files.
Several hours later she had finished reports, by hand, and went over details on all the cases she had over the past month. She sighed again. It was about 5am and the sun would be rising soon. Good thing too, the lamp was beginning to run out of fuel. Snow was still falling to the ground and she shivered a bit.
Pulling the blanket from the back of the cough she propped her legs up and began to look through her mail. Bill, bill, bill, junk, credit card offer, Christmas card from Nick, bill, letter from Grissom, junk, junk…
She stopped and raised an eyebrow. Letter from Grissom? She saw him today at work, why would he be sending her a letter, why wouldn't he just hand it to her?
She opened the letter and pulled it out of the envelope.
My dearest Catherine,
I know our relationship has been on shaky ground the past few years and I admit I am wholly at fault. I pushed you away out of fear…fear that you would find out what you truly meant to me. Now that I am leaving CSI I want you…no I need you to know that I am deeply in love with you. Every waking moment of mine is spent with your beautiful face in my mind's eye. I need your touch, your presence and your love. I just hope I am not too late for you to give it to me. When this letter finds you, I hope to hear from you.
All my love,
Gil
She read the letter over and over again with tears rolling down her face and staining the paper. She reached for her cell phone to call him but found it dead. Getting up she pulled on her boots and opened the door, only to find him standing on the porch about to knock.
"Hi" he smiled
She didn't answer him, instead she kissed him, wrapping her arms around his neck and fusing her lips to his. He kissed her back, wrapping his arms around her small waist and pulling her body closer. He pulled back and looked into her blue eyes.
"You got the letter?" he asked with a smirk
She nodded
"So I take it my greeting means you love me too?" he asked
She laughed and took his hand pulling him inside, "maybe I need to show you in a more effective way" she winked shutting the front door.
