Disclaimer: I don't own The Last 5 Years. The wonderful Jason Robert Brown does.

Cathy stared at the watch. It's a special watch. Jaime gave it to her on their first Christmas together. It was meant to be the gift of time. As she watched the second hand move, she thought of the many seconds she'd have to live without her ex-husband. Tears clouded her vision.

She went to the bridge near her home and stared at the water. She felt so much pain. All the watch did was bring back memories of him. Cathy didn't want Jaime's gift. It brought back too many painful memories.

Cathy unhooked the watch. In one swift movement, she threw it into the lake. She watched it sink to the bottom and immediately regretted her action. It was too late to save it. Her watch reminded her of her marriage. It was special, even if some memories were too painful to bear. Her left hand felt naked without the discarded watch and wedding rings.

She turned around and began to walk home with a lowered head. That way, nobody could see her tears.
