Looking Back
Danny and Sam were walking the park at nighttime, holding hands, they stopped at a bench to sit down.
High school was finished and Sam needed to tell Danny something. He knew something wasn't right.
"Danny. . ."
"Yes, Sam?"
They looked at each other, not saying anything, just letting the rainfall on their skin.
"Danny, I'm leaving"
"What?"
"I'm leaving. I'm moving to Miami. I-I'm sorry, but the college that I really want to go to is there an-"
"But, you can't leave home! What about us? Our future?" Danny said, jumping from the bench.
Sam bit her lip. "Danny, please. Don't make this any harder than it is." She stood up, to look in his eyes. "I have to go"
"When are you leaving?" He couldn't look at, just stared at his feet
"Tomorrow" that made his head snap up, he was speechless. He didn't know what to do. He pulled into a hug, tears were pouring out of his eyes.
"I love you, Danny"
That night, he secretly sore to himself, that he would never let her go.
"And who's that?" a little boy said, pointing at a picture of a girl with purple eyes. "Sam, she was my friend"
"She's pretty," stated the black haired boy. "She is, isn't she?"
Two years and he couldn't take it.
No calls. No letters. Nothing.
He nearly went insane without her around, everything he did, reminded himself of her. It was killing him.
He was fighting with himself, debating if he should or shouldn't.
Next thing he knew, he was on a flight to Miami.
But, he couldn't find her when he reached to there. Two weeks past and he gave up.
He couldn't take it anymore and he had to go back home.
Before he left, he got some coffee down at a café by the hotel he was staying at. He didn't look around the café, just sat down and waited for a waiter to come by.
"What. . What are you doing here?"
that voice!
"Sam!"
"I know why you're here and I'm not coming back!"
"Can I see her one day?" the little boy asked, looking up at his Uncle.
"Well. . ." Danny hesitated.
"Another time" a voice said. "Daddy!" the little boy jumped out of Danny's lap to run to Tucker. "It's your bed time, mate. Did Uncle Danny tell you a story?" "Yeah! About a pretty purple eyed lady!"
Tucker looked at Danny. Danny smiled sadly. "That's nice. Say goodnight to Uncle Danny" "Night, Night" and with that Tucker and his son walked upstairs.
Danny looked down at the photo album; he gently ran his finger down the picture of Sam. Thinking of the life, they could have had if she stayed.
