Jayfeather

Sightless blue eyes, nevertheless reflecting feelings he had lost but found again. The sky hung moonless above them, the stars for once nothing but stars. This wasn't wrong. It can't be right. Though rare for her, their minds were shut off to the warrior code. The one that had been shattered so many times, it is impossible to fit the pieces together.

Mother and son, pelts both smelling like herbs.

He never despised her; it was his sister who had. It was just nice to feel as though somebody still cared for him, though that somebody has banished themselves from the clan to hide from pain.

"I'm glad you came," she murmured, her breath light in his ear.

They were out in the open; any cat could stumble upon them. Their sins were being watched by the trees, though what sins? It was just mother and son, meeting in front of the endless lake. Out in the open, if that's the way he likes it thought Leafpool.

"Of course I'd come." Out in the open.

"Even though I'm a rogue." Where any cat could stumble upon them.

"Even though you're a rogue, you're still my mother."

That was the way he liked it.
