Focus.

Pure focus.

Focus on the sight picture. Focus on my breathing. Focus on the wind.

Tight grip. Just me and the rifle. Nothing else. Absolute concentration. You could touch me and I wouldn't notice.

Waiting for my target. It can come any time now. Got to be ready.

Crosshairs move as I breathe. Where's my target?

Breathe in, breathe out.

There's the target. Moving left to right. Breathe out, hold it. Gentle sque BANG!

I blink in surprise as the bullet flies to its target as I ride the recoil. Through my scope I see the v-shaped ripple the bullet makes in the air. Thock! The sound reaches me seconds after the bullet hits the wooden target.

"Centre head, nice shot boss."

"Still got it DiNozzo. One shot, one kill."

Authors note: I went shooting on Monday and this came to mind.
