A/N I don't own anything you recognize…
"I do not pity him at all! He is a bloody traitor for valars sake! I do NOT pity him!" She managed to say between the sobs. Legolas knew she lied, but he didn't say anything, just held her tighter. He knew he was crying as well, but he didn't care about it. He gently rocked his sisters' body back and forth and sang softly in sindarin. They sat under the great oak in the garden where it all had started, for what seemed like an eternity ago…
Flashback:
Legolas sat in his study reading some documents his father had left for him earlier. He was terribly bored, and things didn't became better of that his impish little sister had told him that she was going to spend the afternoon in the garden. They were plotting against him, he knew it!
A sudden scream of pain and surprise reached him. He knew that voice, Elanwen! He got up and grabbed one of his twin knifes that had been lying across his bed and took the closest way out to the garden, namely his window. He landed nimbly on his feet and ran of in direction of the scream.
The scene in front of him made him stop dead in his tracks. His sister was lying underneath the great oak, a dagger clearly visible stuck in her left shoulder. Standing over her pale as the moon was the captain of the guard Ruin. His hand was still closed around the shaft of the dagger…
The next thing Legolas was aware of was bending over his little sister, pleading her to stay consciousness until the healers arrive.
End flashback:
Legolas sighed, Ruins treachery had shocked the entire palace, including his father, but the evidence was clear, as the punishment. Ruin was guilty to High treachery and murder attempt on a member to the royal family, he was caught red-handed, the punishment according to the law was also clear: Death by hanging.
He shuddered as he remembered the event a few hours before.
Flashback:
It was absolutely quiet, not a sound was herd. No birds were singing, and the trees were quiet for once. All the elves where gathered on the court yard outside the palace. Around a gallows… Everyone was there, including Elanwen, now released from the healers. She was pale as snow, but if it was from horror or blood-loss he couldn't tell. He shivered as the elf was lead out. He didn't struggle; he just walked quietly, looking towards the ground, not once lifting his face.
They didn't read the charge. Everyone already knew, and they didn't want to prolong the suffering. As they put the noose around his neck, Ruin lifted his face towards the sky, his lips where moving as if he was praying. Legolas saw how Elanwen looked away, she couldn't bear the sight. As they pulled the lever, Legolas too looked away meeting the gaze of his father. Thranduil was ash gray, but from anger or sorrow Legolas couldn't judge.
End flashback:
Elanwen had escaped as soon as possible, Legolas was soon to follow. He had found her here, where it all started, struggling to keep the tears from falling. But as soon as he showed up, she had launched herself into his arms, sobbing helplessly. One thing was certain, they would never forget this day…
OK, I know this is lousy, but this idea was stuck in my head and I had to get it out. Review and tell me what you think!
