Playing God
Today (January 9) is Play God Day, and the first thing I thought of when I heard about it was Light, so here you go. -Rin
Yagami Light had been concealing his impatience all through the school day. When the last bell finally rang, he sighed internally with relief, though anyone watching wouldn't have been able to tell.
Light walked just the slightest bit faster on his way home than usual. Today was his favorite day of the year, Play God Day. He couldn't wait to get home and serve justice to all those sinners. Yes, he would rule over a new world as Kira. Perhaps then he would make today a more widely-observed holiday.
When Light reached his home, he told his family he had a lot of homework to do, and excused himself to his room. After locking the door, he removed the Death Note from its hiding place in his desk and turned on his computer.
Light wrote almost non-stop for the next half hour, adding the dramatic flourish he so loved at the end of every name. He was making the world a better place, he could almost feel it. Ryuk was watching over his shoulder.
"Uh, Light? You do know that Play God Day is a day to do something really nice for someone else, right?" Light turned in his chair to face the shinigami.
"Oh, I am doing something nice." A twisted grin made its way onto his face. "For the world."
