Unsociable

Volkner wasn't a socializing sort of person. Any attempts to get him out of the hovel he called his gym resulted in an ass kicking from one of the robots he built. The eighth Gym Leader of Sinnoh, he was tough, but as his friend Flint described him, he was boring, a grouch.

That all changed the day she came.

6th of July. She'd done her bit at the Nimbasa Summer Festival, then left for a holiday on the warm sands of Sunyshore. She was welcomed warmly by the citizens of the seaside city. Most knew her face from the fashion magazines- she was a famous supermodel, and her name was Elesa.

Volkner noticed her as soon as she stepped of her fancy private jet. Her shorts and top all-in-one, and the yellow jacket that looked like it was make of yellow pillows that covered her pale arms. Her long black hair, and those comically large headphones. He couldn't help but chuckle when he noticed that her shoes were two different colours.

He watched her from a distance for days, picking up on every detail. Her mascara was in a bright blue bottle, and she wore a necklace with a lightning bolt pendant. She was slim, and pale, with cerulean eyes and baby pink lips. She walked up straight, and with confidence. Heads turned to look at her every time she stepped out of her Hotel Grand Lake room. Rumour had it, she was an Electric type Gym Leader, and when Volkner heard this, it made him appreciate her even more.

Though how could someone like him compete with her? She was way out of his league. There was probably loads of guys back in Unova that she'd much rather date. Like that Grimsley dude, the Elite Four member. Him, well, he was nothing. Just your average guy with a slight obsession with mechanics. Dirty blonde, spiked up hair, black shirt and trousers and a bright blue jacket. Nothing special.

She'd noticed him watching her. His piercing blue eyes, and the way he ruffled his hair. The constant tinkering noise from his gym intrigued her, and she wanted to know what was going on.

He opened the door begrudgingly to her. She walked inside and her led her through the gym to his house at the back. She mentally took notes on the wiring and mechanics of the system. Neither of them said a word.

A blue sofa, a yellow beanbag and a black armchair. A Luxray curled up in front of the 42 inch, plasma screen TV. The coffee table was littered with empty beer bottles and pizza boxes. The cushions on the sofa were ruffled, but the armchair and the beanbag didn't look like they'd ever been used. He gestured towards the armchair, and she obediently took a seat.

He opened a drawer in the desk covered with computers and odd-looking machines, pulling out a strangely shaped parcel wrapped in yellow tissue paper. He handed it to her, and she gingerly unwrapped it, in fear of it exploding.

A silver metal heart, with little LED lights, all held together with the tiniest rivets.

"I can't give you the real thing, so that will have to do."
