No, Danny Phantom does not belong to me. Such a pity.

A random thought popped into mind one day, and so I thought: Why Not? This is what came of it. Reviews are welcome, and flames are even appreciated!

(My matches were taken away, so I need something to entertain me.)

"Kids! It's finished!" A chill ran up my spine.

My brother stuck his head out of his room, where he and his friends were hanging out. "What's finished?" He asked.

"Another potential disaster. What else?" He frowned and opened his mouth to reply, but one of his friends beat him to it.

"Their inventions aren't that bad!" Tucker, a thin African American boy, didn't seem entirely convinced with what he said.

"Sam," I referred to Danny's other friend, "I've lost count. How many times have we lost one wall or another to some sort of explosion?"

"Well, you haven't lost the house, so it's not that bad." The goth paused and began muttering under her breath. "Ecto-powered toaster, various anti-ghost weapons, the Fenton thermos… No, you haven't lost the house yet." Louder, "Don't worry about it, Tucker." The boy shrugged and went back to his PDA.

Danny rolled his eyes and pushed past us, heading for the stairs. "Maybe it worked this time? Whatever it is."

I didn't answer, but followed him down to the basement. Tucker and Sam, possibly remembering some of the other incidents, quickly came up with excuses and escaped. I was left alone with my insane family, and found myself dreading the unveiling of the new menace. A portal into the ghost realm.

We had settled inside the basement, me behind cover, while mom and dad had monologued about the importance their invention could hold for future science. And then dad suddenly plugged it in, with no warning. The invention gave a massive flash, I dove to the ground, and nothing happened. Not even a blackout. Everyone else looked disappointed while I… I was doing my best not to cheer 'Success!'.

I found myself immensely relieved, and my visions of ghostly monsters charging out a functional portal to raise mayhem in our realm, unfounded. I could cry in relief. So wrapped up in my thoughts, I missed my parents leaving. I did not, however, miss Danny grabbing a hazmat suit.

"Danny, what do you think you are doing?" Please don't tell me…

"I'm trying to find out why it didn't work." Horrification. He's going to take after mom and dad.

"Don't. It's screwy, like half the other things they make, leave it at that. The last thing we need is for that thing to malfunction or turn on with you in it." Danny didn't listen. His self preservation instinct is faulty. It's out of my hands. So gave up and left, tossing one last comment over my shoulders.

"Fine. I'm not going stick around to watch this backfire. Don't blame me if you leave the room mutated."
