Silently, she takes out her box of memories. Digging through she finds her old yearbook. "Cutest Couple: Ulrich Stern and Yumi Ishiyama." It all comes flooding back to her.

If I could take this moment forever

Turn the pages of my mind

To another place and time

We would never say goodbye

-Flashback-

If I could find the words I would speak them

"Maybe you could explain to me why the hell you were with William?" shouted Ulrich, though Yumi was standing right next to him.

Then I wouldn't be tongue-tied

When I looked into your eyes

"I-I don't know." Yumi stuttered, remembering William's threat.

"If you don't go out with me that idiot Stern gets it!"

She couldn't tell Ulrich about that. She just couldn't. She had planned to, but one look into those angry eyes and all was lost.

We would never say goodbye

That day had been like any other one for the group of five. Odd was hungry, Jeremie and Aelita both aced their science tests, and Ulrich and Yumi were in love.

If I could stop the moon ever rising

Day would not become the night

Ulrich had caught William and Yumi together, seemingly enjoying a golden sunset. Tears in his eyes, he makes a mad dash back to his dorm, failing to notice the girl behind him, only feeling the cold.

Wouldn't feel this cold inside

Rejection.

And we'd never say goodbye

Everything had been going so well, it was perfection. Nothing gold can stay, the two said to themselves.

I wish that our dreams weren't frozen

Then our hearts would not be broken

When we let each other go...

"Yumi, I gave you my whole heart and you shattered it. Goodbye"

And at that point she wanted to say "It was all a mistake Ulrich! I love you! Come back!" but all she managed to say was "Goodbye Ulrich."

If I could steal this moment forever

Paint a picture-perfect smile

The yearbook had been finalized, so the "Cutest Couple" could not be changed. She convinced herself Ulrich was not right for her, if he had loved her, he would have listened to her words. So Yumi continued to go out with William and when asked about her relationship with Ulrich she would smile and say "That was then, this is now."

-End Flashback-

So our story stayed alive
