Ben Wheeler had been raising his daughter for a few months now. He loved his baby girl but every so often, and the amount was growing, he would catch himself mumbling the same exact thing. 'Why me? Why did I have to give up part of my life for her?' Nobody knew he withheld these thoughts, but they happened when things got tough. And Danny had noticed.
Sometimes when Ben was paying bills he would glance at Emma look upset. Danny wasn't the brightest person, but he knew from the drifting glances and nights of a couple more drinks than necessary, that he was concerned about raising Emma.
And when his mind was blank while playing Hockey, or he was alone he had the thought, 'Why was it Ben? Why was it my younger brother? Why didn't I get to be a dad?' He sometimes wondered if he had more parental feelings about Emma than Ben did, and he believed it occasionally. Especially when Ben made a dumb choice or took Emma somewhere dangerous. Sadly, Danny could never tell anyone, that he wished Emma was his and not Ben's.
