A/N: It's my second oneshot, now featuring Yukio, and it takes place after the brothers' quarrel in episode 3. Although it's short I would appreciate your comments since there are some questionable ideas in this fic but it's the result of quite a lot of thought I've given Yukio's character and his relationship with Rin.

Contemplation.

The lesson – or rather something faintly resembling it, being held in a totally ruined classroom – had already ended and all the students had left the room. Even Rin followed the dog form of Mephisto who – for some reason – decided to give him a tour of the cram school section of the Academy.

So it is only Okumura-sensei who stands before the teacher's table looking at the hastily aligned desks and replays in his mind the scene that had taken place there a few hours before.

That time he lost control of his behaviour, an unforgivable mistake. He said some things that he did not really plan to say to Rin. Or rather, he just let those words slip his mouth. Since he was so badly hurt by father's death and so totally angered by Rin being so oblivious to the pain he experienced, so disrespectful to the father who died because of him... Who did not die because of Rin but who decided to sacrifice his life for his son. But still he, Yukio, allowed himself to think it was unfair, unfair for the father, the strongest and the wisest, most dazzling and talented, to die. He allowed himself to be spoiled and to put the blame on Rin. He even went as far as to tell Rin that he would be better off dead, the idea born from all the anger and despair he went through these days, the thought he tried to suppress.

Or did he?
Was it really the thought that it was all Rin's fault that he was running from?
Or was it just a guise to escape from something even more frightening?

If you're so talented and skilled, such a splendid exorcist yourself, then where were you that night? Why wasn't you there when the two people most precious to you in this world needed you the most, Yukio?
You failed. You haven't done anything to help. You don't have the right to blame Rin, if you want to blame someone blame yourself. You decided to become exorcist to protect those important to you, and yet you haven't done anything to prove you took a step forward from being a crybaby who was only protected by others. Still unable to do anything by yourself. You went through intense studies and training, you became the youngest exorcist in history who was called a genius by some, and then – it didn't really help one bit.

And Rin could have said all that to him who selfishly tried to push all his problems on his brother. But of course such thoughts would never cross his mind. Because he was Rin, he always said what he wanted and did what he thought right, without much consideration and doubt. Because unlike him Rin always shone brightly. And instead of protecting Rin he ended up being protected by him again. He is still unable to do anything.

But then...

Yukio lifts his gaze to the cellar through which hopgoblins entered the room.

He might have failed. He might still not be capable of much for now. But he has to remember that is not a reason to give up. He has already lost one important person. He won't let something happen to another. He will become somebody who is able to protect others and not only be protected by them. Same as his brother.

He turns towards the door.

Because Rin is his only and most precious brother, his most important person in this world.

He leaves the classroom and shuts the door behind him.
