Ariadne reaches for a beer.
Father wouldn't want me to do that, she thinks, hand hovering in place in the fridge; just above the bottles. The thought is gone as soon as it came. She knows her father wouldn't care if she had a drink or not; she's a big girl, and she can make her own decisions.
She doesn't have a drink.
And still, she feels it over her for the remainder of the day; haunting her like a shadow.

He's in her dreams that night; tall and pale with those striking blue eyes that she can't seem to erase. He stares straight into her own eyes, with a cold and unblinking - unforgiving - expression.
You tricked me, he says, but she tries to say no.
She was just the architect.

She sees him around, noticing him and his undeniable presence all the time; barely out of the corner of her eye.
I saw you in my dreams, she wants to say. And in her mind he always responds with I saw you too.
She stays silent - that's not a conversation she wants to have.
She does her best not to notice him.
...
You think I'm not real, he tells her, and she never has an answer for that question.
Does that mean Mal was a lie?
He's not here. He's not in her mind. He's not dead. He's alive and she sees him every day; both dreaming and awake. There's a difference.
There is.
...
She can't have him when she's awake, but there's nothing to stop her from dreaming.
And lately, her dreams had been more than enough.

A/N: Yeah, first Inception fic. This movie was amazing, and I cannot possibly speculate on how much I adored it. I think I love Leo DiCaprio a little more now. xxo
