Someone Like You

Prompt: Someone Like You- Adele

I heard that you're settled down.
That you found a girl and you're married now.
I heard that your dreams came true.
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you.

Emily walked into the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. Her dream was finally coming true. She walked into the office of her Unit Chief. She was shocked when she saw it was Aaron Hotchner.

Suddenly, everything from her teenage years came rushing back. She and Aaron had dated during the time he worked for her mother. But they had broken up after he decided he wanted to be a lawyer. He would be far away from her, so he broke up with her.

"Hi, Aaron." She said, shaking his hand.

"Emily, wow. I haven't seen you in a while."

"Yeah, I know. So, how have you been?"

"Great. I'm married now and I have a son, Jack."

"Oh. I'm happy for you, Aaron. You have everything you've ever wanted."

"Yeah, I guess I do."

Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light.
I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited, but I couldn't stay away.
I couldn't fight it.
I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded that, for me, it isn't over.

Emily could tell that Aaron was a little on-edge with her. He didn't seem as connected to her as he used to be.

"Aaron, are you okay? You seem a little, I don't know, shy?"

"Sorry. I'm just shocked you're here. I never thought I's ever see you again. Why are you here?"

"I want to join the BAU. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time."

"Okay. I'll speak to the director, Erin Strauss."

"Thank you."

For Emily, their relationship wasn't really over. It was a long time ago, but she still loved him. He held a special spot in her heart.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you.
I wish nothing but the best for you, too.
Don't forget me, I beg.
I remember you said,
"Sometimes, it lasts in love,
But sometimes, it hurts instead."

Emily could always find someone else. Aaron was married and settled down. He was happy. She missed Aaron and being in a relationship with him. Soon, she would get over it, though, and move on. Love hurts sometimes. Some things just aren't meant to be.

You know how time flies.
Only yesterday was the time of our lives.
We were born and raised in a summer haze,
Bound by the surprise of our glory days.
Nothing compares.
No worries or cares.
Regrets and mistakes, they're memories made.
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?

Emily and Aaron sat in his office and talked. They talked about when they were younger. To Emily, they were the best days she had. They had so many fun times and did so many great things.

They also did many stupid things, but that made for great memories.

She would find someone, eventually. She'd be happy when she did. She would soon move on from Aaron and they'd be great friends.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you.
I wish nothing but the best for you, too.
Don't forget me, I beg.
I remember you said,
"Sometimes, it lasts in love,
But sometimes, it hurts instead."
