From the archives: Yes, I located my stash of Roswell fanfic while I was at my parents' home over the holidays this year. Aside from a few spelling corrections, I'm publishing them without major editing. Yes, I was a much different writer when I initially wrote and published these (15+ years ago, which is mind-boggling to me). Please be kind to the version of me that wrote these.
Disclaimer: Didn't own it then. Don't own it now. Roswell and its characters (still, I assume) belong to Warner Brothers.
"You guys! Take a break, already! Midterms are in three weeks, not three hours!"
Maria was impatient. She'd been attempting to get everyone to do something different for the entire weekend; all they'd done is shoo her away and study their books.
Maria expected their eyes to pop out from staring at those books for so long.
"Maria actually has a good idea, you guys."
Maria stared at Michael Guerin in disbelief; he was actually agreeing with her.
"Okay, okay. We'll take a break."
"Gee, thanks Liz. You're so enthusiastic."
"Whatever, Maria. As long as it's short and we can then go back to studying uninterrupted, I'll be fine."
"You sound like it's a punishment to take a break, Liz."
"Just drop it. It's not that bad, okay? Anyone have a suggestion of something that we can do that would be brief and beneficial?"
"Since when did you care about something being beneficial, Bonebrain?"
"Since I realized that you don't do anything that is beneficial, Cheesehead. You like pointless things, so therefore, I like things with a purpose."
"Just shut up, you two! Gah! Your normal bickering is bad enough, but come on!"
"Why don't we play basketball?"
Max quickly decided to change the subject, much to Isabel's dismay.
She did, however, decide that he had a good idea, and conceded.
"Good idea, Max. Just like we used to do at home with mom and dad."
"Right. Anyone up for it?"
A whole bunch of yeahs, sures, and whatevers met their ears and they were satisfied.
They arrived at the park soon after and decided to choose teams.
"Three-on-three. Boys against girls."
"Max! That is so sexist!"
"Maria! It won't kill you. Isabel is fairly good at the game, and I'm sure you and Liz can hold your own."
"Right. Whatever, Max."
Max rolled his eyes in exasperation.
"Wasn't it your idea to do something in the first place?"
"Just shut up and play!"
"Fine!"
Both of them yelled it at once and Maria began to giggle uncontrollably.
"What?"
In between spasms, Maria spit out, "You… used… the… female… f… word!"
And then everyone was lying on the court rolling with laughter.
When the laughter died down, they began the game.
After the first half, the guys were up 20:6.
Then, after the second, the girls won 49:25.
And Maria was thrilled.
She immediately began jumping up and down, obviously reeling in their victory.
Then came the taunting.
"Girls Score, Boys Dribble! Girls Score, Boys Dribble!"
Catching on, Liz and Isabel joined their effervescent friend in a victory dance, keeping an eye on the guys' faces all the while.
"Girls Score, Boys Dribble! Girls Score, Boys Dribble!"
And only Alex had enough to sling back,
"Well, if it had been dodgeball, you'd be sorry you'd ever played with me! So there!"
And once again, six bodies lay on the asphalt gasping for breath as fits of laughter overcame them.
