Shadows of our Past
(Warning Major Undertale Spoilers)
Frisk slowly scaled the mountain, sweat building up on her face. As her fingertips finally grasped the edge of the mountaintop she finally heaved her tired body up the mountain top, each breath getting more forced and laboured than the last. She started to walk towards the centre but her legs gave way beneath her and she collapsed to the hard, rocky ground. No longer having the strength to continue she fell asleep, rocks and gravel seeming incredibly comfortable to her fatigued body.
Frisk barely managed to peel her eyelids open with the relentless sun pounding down on her. She lifted her limp body up onto her feet clumsily but never falling down. She had actually managed to escape her abusive parents and home. Looking back on it now it probably wasn't the best idea, here it was always either too hot or too cold and there wouldn't have anyone else to talk to. It was going to be a sad and lonely life from here on. Maybe it wasn't a really good idea to begin with. She took a couple steps back but tripped on a loose tree root. As she fell she only had one thought, Frisk didn't want to die…
Frisk lay sprawled across a strange, yellow flower bed. As her eyes adjusted to the dim lighting, she heard strange but soft music. As her petite feet pattered across the smooth, stone floor the music grew louder. She came to a stop below a purple archway, but the music didn't stop playing. Feeling even more curious she stepped inside to find the creator of the music, very slowly the music grew louder and louder. She cautiously entered a large, empty room. All there was for decoration was a single hill covered in grass. What was happening? There was nobody here yet the music was getting even louder. Suddenly, a yellow flower popped up out of the hill and blinked at Frisk.
"Howdy! I'm Flowey, Flowey the Flower! You're new to the underground aren't you?" Frisk nodded her head vigorously at the golden flower. The flower glared at her and continued, suddenly the room went all black, "Down here, you are going to need love to get stronger, you want some love don't you? Down here, love is shared in little white 'Friendliness Pellets' here, I'll share some with you!" Suddenly, five white bullets were racing towards Frisk, she remembered the advice and leapt towards the closest one.
"You idiot! In this world it's kill or be killed! Why would anybody give up an opportunity like this?" Suddenly Frisk was circled by the bullets, she cried out… but nobody came. The tears flowed out of her eyes and onto her blue and magenta sweater. Just as she lost hope, a fireball blasted into the room and knocked Flowey away to the side. "What a terrible creature! Trying to harm such an innocent youth, I am Toriel, caretaker of the ruins, and you are?"
"Frisk, my name is Frisk," Toriel looked a lot like a goat but walked on her hind legs with bunny like feet, and wore an elaborately designed dress. She took Frisks hand and led her through a door that Frisk never noticed earlier. The catacombs called the ruins winded around and through many rooms filled with many puzzles. Toriel taught Frisk how to not fight, gave her a cell phone and acted much more like a mother than Frisks actual mother did.
Frisk was walking up to a strange tree when her phone buzzed, it was Toriel again. The call was declined and Toriel appeared from around the tree, phone in hand. "Maybe I shouldn't have left you alone for so long, luckily you weren't hurt while you were exploring!" Toriel grinned at Frisks determined face and laughed. "I want to show you something!" She led Frisk around the tree and revealed a neat, tidy and cute house. Frisk was filled with determination as she walked through the front door.
Days turned to weeks and Frisk grew bored and finally asked Toriel how to leave the ruins, "You can't leave sweetie, and don't go downstairs there is nothing to see down there!" Toriel dismissed the bored Frisk, closed her book and went downstairs. Frisk followed her all the way to a door, "You want to leave so badly? Prove to me that you can survive, prove that you are strong enough to survive out there or he, Asgore, will kill you. Asgore always kills them, you're not the first to want to leave but I have seen it all before, children leave and Asgore kills them… I can't see it happen again, please don't do this to me!" Toriel was speaking at the top of her lungs and tears rolled down her cheeks. Frisk was scared but was entered into the fight anyway.
"Howdy there, I'm Chara, I was the first to fall. I can help you prove your strength to this old lady! All I need is your strength, your limbs, your body. Lend it to me and we can be stronger, faster and we can finally be able to leave this place behind. We can become the new ruler and show these monsters who we really are!" A strange voice echoed through Frisk's head. Frisk finally caved in and Chara took over. "Heh, remember me…mother? I was the first to fall…you never looked after me half as much as you did to dear old Frisk here did you?" Chara accused.
"No! You're a liar! You and Asriel were the best things that ever happened to me! You grew ill and we couldn't save you Chara, there was no cure! We tried…I tried….but…but… you still died… We grieved for years Chara but nothing changed! You were dead!" Toriel was now crying. Chara took the chance and leapt up at Toriel and slashed her toy knife at her. "Goodbye…mother" Toriel faded away into dust, soul cracking into tiny pieces. Frisk cried but nobody came to her aid.
"See Frisk…we could be the new ruler of the underground! Just lend me your body like that whenever and they won't be able to stop us! We could be heroes!"
