Kali awoke suddenly as she felt the cold brush of a sword against her neck. When she opened her eyes, she was careful not to move to much as she noticed a dark hooded figure hanging over her. His hot breath forming little clouds in the cold winter air.

"Don't make a sound" his soothing voice whispered into her ear as he slowly put a away his sword. His presence was enough to make Kali stay still.

Slowly he took off his hood, revealing a tired looking boy with bright blue eyes and soft brown hair, which had a flash of silver across the middle. He was carrying a number of other weapons; bows and arrows, a few daggers, no guns. This surprised Kali as almost all warriors these days carried guns with them but she was certainly glad he didn't have any. His sword glistened in the moonlight and reflections danced on the walls among the bookshelves and the cupboards.

He sat at the end of her bed and sighed as he looked out of the window at the beautiful view. The moon's reflection shimmered on the lake below as the trees swayed gently from side to side in a cool wind. It was cold outside and tiny pieces of snow began to fall from the sky above.

Kali opened her mouth to say something but the boy looked at her, his eyes piercing through hers as she closed her mouth and waited for him to say something. He gave a little cough, stood up and for the first time Kali noticed his boots. They were brown, just below the knee but decorated with thin silver lines. She noticed something fluttering and they saw two pairs of tiny silver wings attached to the back of his boots.

"My name is Ajax." spoke the boy in the same soothing voice as he had spoken in before. "I am here to take you to Chase. He wishes to speak with you."

Kali didn't know what to think. She had heard of the one they call Chase. Everyone in her village, even cities outside of the village and over the mountains had heard of Chase. But he was a myth, a legend. No one had ever seen him. No one has ever heard his voice, but still some believe he is there.

"I can only take you if you are willing to go, I can't force you." Ajax continued. "I could leave now if you wanted to, you did invite me in remember so I cant think why you wouldn't want to go."

"Invited you in?" Kali whispered as she swung her legs out of bed and placed her feet delicately on the cold tiles of her bedroom floor. "When did I do that?"

"When you placed three candles, a black candle, a red candle and a yellow candle, onto your windowsill and left them there to burn until morning." He replied sitting on a cushion on the floor in front of her. "Everyone knows that that is the sign to call upon an angel of the night." he continued twiddling his thumbs.

Kali could see he was growing impatient with her. "What do you mean, an angel of the night? Aren't they only a myth?"

"A myth are they?" Ajax questioned as he took of his cloak, revealing a beautiful pair of silver wings. They glistened in the moonlight and caused Kali to gasp in amazement.

"They're beautiful" she whispered gently in awe of his wings. "I better come with you.haven't I?" she sighed as he nodded and began to attach his weapons to his belt. "How do we get there? To see chase I mean." she asked while clambering into some clothes.

"We fly of course!" he replied as he picked her up in his arms and softly dived out of the window, his wings cutting through the cold air in silence.
