BUT. BUT. BUT.

Disclaimer: I don't own Mystic Messenger. Because if I did... Ohhhh, boy.

MC awoke with a start, breathing heavily and clutching at her chest like her very life depended on it. Her vision was blurry and blinking a few times told her that she had previously been crying in her sleep. Feeling around the bed in the dark and coming up with nothing, showed her that she was alone. Which was hardly unusual, as her sleep partner spent a lot of time working through the night than he did during the day. She never could fathom why.

Slowly, as she was still quite shaken up, she pulled back the blankets with trembling hands and jilted slightly when her bare feet touched the cold hardwood floor. Having spent so much time in this house, she walked towards the bedroom door with expert ease and made her way downstairs towards his office. The dark did little to lighten her erratic heartbeat and instead, she was overcome back this crippling anxiety that only started to recede when she noticed the light from her lover's monitor screens through the window's of his see-through office.

Quietly, she opened the door and peeked through at the hacker typing furiously away at his keyboard. He hadn't noticed her yet and with the stealth of Elizabeth the 3rd, she slowly crept up behind the redhead and wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face in his hair.

Caught off guard, Saeyoung tensed only for a moment before relaxing under her touch and trying to crane his neck to look up at her.

"MC?" He asked, trying to get a better look at her but she stood completely rigid, reluctant to let him see her. "What's wrong?"

She kept her lips pursed together, her eyes beginning to water once more. Her throat felt like it was closing, suffocating her. Her shoulders shook though she tried hard to keep her composure. Startled, Saeyoung forced himself out of her hold and turned to grasp her arms, his face contorting to concern as he caught sight of her face.

"Baby, what happened?!"

She tried to speak, truly she tried, but no matter how many times she parted her lips, not a single word rolled off her tongue, which only caused her to break out into a harsh sob before Saeyoung pulled her onto his lap and wrapped his arms tightly around her. He tried to the best of his ability to calm her down and even through the layers of clothes that separated them, he could feel her heart beating fast and wild, her pulse was racing and the worst was conjured up in his own mind at the thought that something was terribly wrong with his brunette.

He rubbed her back, whispering quietly in her ear, trying fruitlessly to get her down from her hysteria. Several minutes that could have easily been hours went by, until finally, MC's sobs turned quiet and her shoulders weren't shaking as bad.

Saeyoung tilted his head slightly, placing multiple kisses along her shoulder, towards her neck, and along her jaw before pulling back and trying to meet her gaze with worried golden orbs. "MC... Please," He begged, his own eyes beginning to water at her distraught face.

More time passed before MC felt like she could speak without falling to pieces once more and took a shuddering breath before allowing her forehead to meet his. She was suddenly so very tired and the familiar arms that held her so close was so comforting and warm, she could easily fall asleep right there.

Saeyoung murmured her name again, catching her attention as she forced a trembling sigh past her lips.

"I-I had..." She swallowed thickly, pausing for a brief moment before starting again. "I had a nightmare..."

Nodding solemnly, Saeyoung allowed her to continue without interrupting.

Averting her gaze to the side, she spoke softly, "I was in this... world. This world so much like this, but... I wasn't with you. Not technically. I was with... everyone else. Like... We were together, married, or..." She tripped over her words constantly, but Saeyoung remained silent, letting her finish at her own pace. "It was like, different lives, but I was still me... With, everyone else... And you..."

She clenched her jaw, her vision blurring once again but Saeyoung merely tightened his hold on her, quietly encouraging her to continue.

"You were... just there. Behind the scenes... Just watching..." She breathed, her fingers clenching on his jacket as if he might disappear should she let go. "You looked so broken... Just watching me... With them... You were saying something... About resetting, but... Always looking, upset when I didn't choose you... Again and... Again."

She was choking on her sobs again, unable to continue as you buried your face into the crook of his neck, too ashamed to even look at him. Saeyoung's gaze softened considerably, holding you to him like the world was ending and you were the only thing keeping it alive. He felt it. The pain... The grief... He, quite literally, felt his heart tear in two as he held you against him, your quiet whimpers all too much to bear.

"Shh," He whispered, rocking you slightly. "It's okay. It was only a bad dream. You're okay, we're okay, MC. I'm right here. You're right here... With me."

Saeyoung didn't say a word about it, but just the thought that her dream, so vivid even in his own eyes, felt like hell to himself. He never doubted MC's feelings for him and likewise, she never had to doubt his feelings for her. But to think, that in a different reality, they wouldn't have been together...

No, he couldn't even fathom. In every reality, in every dimension, it was always them. It didn't matter what lifetime or what game of any kind, Saeyoung and his MC would always be together. There was no exception to that rule.

Abruptly, MC began stuttering over her apologies. Speaking in low tones, but he'd heard her perfectly.

Immediately, he pulled back from her, forcing her to look him in the eye. Her face was a mess, true, but she still forced his heart to ache at her beauty.

"Don't apologize. Don't ever apologize for a such a thing. You did nothing wrong. You could never do anything wrong, MC. I'm yours. I have always been yours and I will alwaysbe yours. No dream, no alter reality will ever change that."

MC's eyes began to water again, but he quickly reached up with both hands and cupped her face, brushing her eyes softly of any stray tears.

"I love you, MC." He smiled up at her. "To our space station and back."

"...Saeyoung," She breathed quietly and the redhead quickly leaned forward and captured her lips with his, silencing any further words from tumbling off her tongue.

A moment later, they pulled apart and with a quick swivel of his chair, he turned his monitor off and hoisted up his girlfriend to head back towards their room. She trembled slightly at the mere thought of falling back asleep, but Saeyoung quickly assured her he wouldn't leave.

"I'll protect you, MC. Nothing and no one is gonna hurt you, I promise."

Holding her close in his arms, Saeyoung made a silent vow to do more work during the day so he could be with MC during the night.
