She smiled because she knew there were so many worse things in this world.
Hinata allowed herself a serene smile while staring up at the night sky.
It was a hot night, too hot to be comfortable under her sheets. When she could no longer stand it, she decided that a nice walk would stop the feeling of unrest that had settled in her. Of course this was after her tossing and turning and eventual stealthy escape from the compound.
She wandered aimlessly, enjoying the great contrast between day and night in her village. The consistently noisy afternoons were like strangers to the silent evenings she so adored. She liked it when it was quite, there were still the sounds of street lights and the odd person hurrying home, but there was something about that quite tranquility. The simple fact that Konaha and its people were safe and sound always put her at ease.
She stretched her legs and stood up, the warm wind just touching her face and then leaving as quickly as it had came. She supposed that was what had encompassed her life, small flitting moments that defined her and left her waiting for more. Her father's rare compliments and even rarer smiles, Kiba's calmness, Shino's anger , Naruto's somberness, all these events had come to shape her.
And most she had the regret to say, did not shape her for the better. When Kiba's brash attitude had turned sober, washed away was his brazen personality and in its place melancholy. When Shino had lost his stoic persona, and all the outrage of war, dying and insanity had bubbled over until there was nothing left. When Naruto's friendly smile turned bitter in disappointment and heartache.
But they all pushed past that, because there was a war to fight.
And that was that.
She had no longer the time to doubt herself, she found that out the hard way when her second guessing had caused casualties. No there was no time for that, only fierce determination and unwavering faith. In what she didn't quite know, perhaps it was her village's conviction to restore their once proud nation.
It was coming along great, nowhere close but it was getting there, enough so that there was Hyuga compound again. Everyone was still recovering from unseen injuries and very present ones. But , she shook her head, it wasn't that.
Maybe it was her generation and their perseverance, the war had in fact changed them all. It was sad though, that they couldn't be comforted by a constant in their lives, someone who didn't change. That had remained innocent. But then again she mused, without changing through strife was like breathing underwater while drowning. Simply impossible.
No it was more than all that. It was the feeling of warmth from friends and families, the smell of home, the one day security of not having to fight day in and day out.
She realized with a start that she was exhausted. She was weary of her world and its warped ways, and she hoped so desperately that it would change. That it could change.
But she continued to be disappointed.
Wow I didn't realized how incredibly short this was! Well this is my first fan fiction, so I suppose that is to be expected. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this, not sure if you did but I can only hope! I find I really like Hinata but a stronger, more confident and self-assured Hinata. It's funny how characters com alive once we give them the chance to exist.
