Brief note, italics are the past. This is a first for me. Let me know how it works.

I still don't own any of these people!!

In the Next Life

"Hey there, Roxy." Demyx plopped himself down in the middle of the floor.

Roxas sighed, not sparring the other blonde Nobody a glance. "How many times do I have to tell you not to call me that?"

"But I like calling you that!"

"So does Axel." Roxas grumbled from his bed. He continued staring at the ceiling.

"And you never tell him not to."

"Because I know it's a waste of time."

"Hey, Roxy."

"You know I hate that nick-name."

"Yep." Axel laughed, snaking his thin arms around the shorter one's waist. "Why do you think I do it?"

"So you are a masochist."

"And you're a sadist. See how well we go together?"

Roxas snorted but didn't bother to reply.

"So what did he do this time?"

"Nothing." Was the clipped answer.

Demyx flicked his few bangs back. "Which is the problem."

Roxas raised his head to glare at him.

The other blonde's face showed nothing but empathy. "Maybe he forgot. This is Axel we're talking about."

"More like he just doesn't care."

"You're more pissy than usual."

"No I'm not."

This time Axel snorted. "You'd think there was something special about today."

The blonde's stance stiffened. He couldn't possibly have forgotten again, could he? Then again, they had been separated for three years but he had thought after the last time…

Roxas suddenly got to his feet. He stalked past Demyx and took his coat from the hook on the wall. He shrugged it on, leaving it unzippered.

"What are you doing?" Demyx frowned in concern. Roxas' face had gone blank.

"I can't stay here." Roxas sounded distracted. "I have something I have to…I should be… Nobody will care…"

"Roxas?"

"Good-bye, Demyx."

Axel turned him around, not releasing his hold on his waist. He gazed down at him with a small smile. "You really thought I could forget again?"

Blue eyes looked up.

"I'm a damn idiot, you know that."

"It shouldn't have been that big of a deal." Roxas murmured. "There was just so much else going on, questioning everything and then you…"

The red head brushed his cheek. "I should have spoken up, made sure you heard me. I just didn't think it would change anything."

He couldn't look at him. If he did… he didn't know what. He had made up his mind and he could not be dissuaded.

"You betray the Organization and they'll destroy you!"

That wasn't panic in his voice. He was hearing what he wanted to. "No one would miss me."

Roxas walked swiftly away. For a second, he thought he heard Axel mutter something. It had to be his imagination.

Roxas shook his head. "It's over now."

"I do learn from my mistakes." Axel grinned a little, apprehension brightening his green eyes.

Roxas narrowed his.

The taller one reached into his pocket. "Here."

The blonde took the small object offered to him, a rare smile crossing his face. "Thanks, Ax."

"Ugh, I hate being called that!"

Roxas placed the necklace around his neck, Axel reaching up to fasten it. Once in secured, Roxas stretched up giving Axel a light kiss. "Too bad."

The former Nobodies remained close, arms wrapped around one another.

"Happy awakening, Roxas."
