Summary: A small Talia/Bane pre-TDKR one-shot
Hello there!
Well here I am, with a tiny one-shot that came to my mind yesterday afternoon, and I just sat on the computer and wrote it.
It takes place just after Talia goes back to the Pit to check on Bane, and finds him quite injured,
All my love to my dear Psaikful (you can find her on tumblr) for the great Beta Reader that she is, and for how good she translated this piece. Gracias Ché
So, I hope you all enjoy it : )
"Your eyes speak for themselves, my friend"
She still remembered it.
Clear and piercing like few of her battered memories.
The day she felt as if her life had ended.
The day she started to lose him.
From the bedroom at the end of the hallway, she could hear his agonizing cries, even though he was completely sedated. But few were the means they had there.
Talia wanted to be strong. She had to be. What kind of member of the League of Shadows would she be if she started to cry? If she let her fear show? The empathy for her friends suffer?
From that bedroom, different surgeons operated on the young Bane, under the surveillance of Ras Al Ghul. They were trying to eradicate or, at least, to diminish the pain that was taking over Bane's face.
It was the cry that pierce the air when that frivolous device was put on his face which made Talia cover her mouth and let the tears roll down her cheeks. Seconds after, she realized what she was doing. He was going to be like that forever, with a horrendous mask covering his mouth. Forever. The idea scared her so, that she moved her hands away from her face, disgusted.
Whimpering, she let herself slide down the wall to the floor, feeling rather small. She felt like when they were down the well, when he would praise her small complex saying that it was more useful than being a wall, like he was. Those comments always made Talia laugh. She replied that being tall was best to scare away the enemy.
Plunged, the tears kept pouring, wetting the neck of her clothes. She didn't realize but someone was next to her. She didn't have to look up because she already knew who it was.
"The operation has finished."Said her father, seconds later leaving the room.
Talia rose, getting dizzy for the sudden movement and went running down the narrow hallway to the room where they kept her friend.
The mask, how they had named it, was nothing other than an ugly device that covered his mouth and nose and that could be use as a microphone. In that moment, Bane's eyes were shut in what seemed pure peace, which nearly made her smile. But the sound that came from the mask gave her the chills.
She put her hand on the mask very softly but the mere contact with it made Bane scowl. Talia took away her hand immediately and her eyes met the blue gaze of her friend, nearly hidden under the hair that was pressed against his face because of the sweat.
His gaze was nothing more than the one of a child feeling lost, scared and hurt. Talia took his hand and squeezed it while she smiled at him with sadness. Some moans could be heard through the mask. It seemed as if Bane was trying to tell her something. Talia smiled again, noticing the tears forming in her eyes.
"Hush, you don't have to say anything. Your eyes speak for themselves, my friend."
Because his eyes were begging her to stop crying for him.
