Disclaimer: All characters and the universe they inhabit are the wonderful brainchildren of Hiromu Arakawa. I'm just playing around with them for a while.

Roy Mustang is surprised when, on the third Friday of his first month in Central, General Ogami appears at the door to his office. He is even more surprised when the general steps aside to allow a sullen, black eyed Havoc to come in before him. He is floored when the person following Havoc in is a swollen nosed Falman wearing a uniform undershirt with a tear in the collar.

The two men come to stand at attention in front of his desk. Falman's head is up but his eyes don't meet his superior's. Havoc stares straight at him, unflinching. Neither man says a word.

The general enters behind them, closing the door. He spares Mustang's subordinates a glance, doesn't seem pleased at what he sees, and informs Roy that he has brought his men to him for punishment. Roy notices that Falman's shoulders tense at the word. He would bet his next paycheck that the man's never been in any trouble since the first day of boot camp.

"You will have to excuse me, General, but I've been in a meeting for most of the morning. I'm not sure I understand what they're supposed to have been doing to warrant punishment." He gives his men a once over, notices a bruise peeking out from the top of Falman's shirt, a split in Havoc's lip. "Especially when it seems someone has already done the honors."

Havoc's eyes flash fire, but it is Ogami who speaks. "Your two men were involved in an altercation with a couple of other officers in the mess hall earlier today. And considering how much "punishment" they dealt out I wouldn't waste your sympathy."

For the sake of his career he keeps his face blank. Mentally, he is sorta proud.

"Indeed. And would either of the two of you care to tell me what started this little altercation?"

"They called the 1st lieutenant a bitch whore who only got where she is by brownnosing her superiors, sir."

It is Havoc who speaks. Roy doesn't know how to respond to that, aside from well done then, but manages to bite down on his lip before it escapes. Ogami clears his throat.

"Be that as it may, officer, I hardly think the woman needs someone to protect her."

"We didn't do it because she's a woman sir." This time it is Falman who speaks, his face still focused on the wallpaper behind Roy's head but with the same determined look that had convinced his superior to add him to his staff. "We did it because she's one of our team members."

Ogami looks like he has a reply for that as well, so Roy takes the opportunity to step in.

"As admirable as that sentiment is it doesn't change the fact that the two of you broke rules, and as your commanding officer it is my job to see that you are disciplined for it."

He takes a moment to consider. "The two of you are suspended, without pay, for the next two days, effective immediately. Also, for the next two weeks after your return to work, it will be your duty to perform all janitorial duties in the office. Am I understood?"

He notices Falman's brow wrinkle a bit, and then the damned fool opens his mouth, most likely to remind one and all that he and Havoc already had the next two days off, and that the next two weeks were their weeks to clean the office. Luckily, Havoc is close enough too discreetly cut the man off with a boot heel to his toes.

"Understood, sir."

Mustang is pretty sure he is. And that next time an incident like this occurs, he will not hear of it. Between Falman's brain and Havoc's sense of humor they'll think up something.
