A/N: I haven't written in a while so here's another one-shot. I don't really like the ending but I hope the concept was done well. Enjoy and let me know what you think.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
She started at the girl, her eyes filled with pain. Pain for a friend that was enduring so much. God knew how much she would give to help with some of the pain, but this was not her battle. It was a battle that would never be won, for no battle like this was ever won.
"She's been through a lot hasn't she?" a man asked as he too started at the girl.
"There's so much pain there. I would do anything to help…but this is not my battle, it never was…it never will be," was the reply.
"It must be hard for her, to know that the one thing she wanted is now gone," the man said, his eyes filled with sorrow for his best friend.
"It's true and too think it was possible," the lady said as she resisted the urge to go to her best friend and tell her everything was alright. Nothing was alright, it never was and it never could be.
'So much pain for one person to take' the man mused. 'How can she live knowing the one thing she loved is no longer hers but someone else's? How does she live with the fact that he is so close and yet so far?'
"How does she do it? She's like a zombie at times like this and yet she stills stays happy," the girl said as she too looked at the sunset.
The wind blew, sending black hair flying; it went unnoticed by the owner, one thing on her mind.
"She's not happy, the one thing that kept her happy is now gone. Nothing can fix her heart…except him," the man replied shaking his head.
"He never was hers to start with was he?" Her heart clenched, and tears threatened to fall.
"I'm afraid not. She was his and he was hers, but they never really belonged," he replied while putting an arm around her waist.
"How does she do it?" she asked again. "She loves him more than what the gods could give and now it's gone. How does she survive every breathing moment, knowing it's one more without him?"
"As long as he's happy, she'll live. Knowing that he's happy is enough for her," and with that the man lead the woman away.
Standing on the balcony was a girl, her black hair flying and brown eyes not seeing. He was happy and that was all that mattered. Her heart was nothing compared to his and as long as his heart had happiness, so did hers.
She would not change a thing if it meant he was sad, even if it meant her death. The pain was enormous, there was no denying it. She loved him and still did. But he was not hers, but someone else's. There was nothing to do about that…she would live, in sadness, but she would live. For he would want her too, he never liked her being sad and if it meant he was happy, then she would be. But for her sake, she would let the pain come…but only when needed. Pain clenched at her heart, he wanted her happy, yet he was what made her happy.
Tears streamed down her face, at the thought that there was no one to wipe her tears, no one to comfort her, for the one that could was no longer her, so close but so far.
She would stand tall, not only for her friends' sake, or hers', but for him. Everything was for him and everything would be.
And with that, the sunset was admired at its full glory. A glory that brought two hearts together and than split them up, like the wind…
