PROLOGUE
A/N- I hope you like it, I know the prologue is short, but there will be more later. I
Disclaimer- I don't own HP etc etc etc.
Riley had been attending Hogwarts for a year, and doing quite well considering what she was. She was very thankful for Professor Lupin's arrival in her second year, and was very happy with her studies and with her new magical friends. She particularly liked a girl named Hermione, who shared her interests in books and also grew up in the muggle world.
It had started a few years previously. She had gone outside one cloudy afternoon, and for some reason was drawn toward the woods down the road from her house. She knew it was a slightly creepy place, and any other day, she would have stayed far away. But something about it today seemed to draw her in. She didn't go very far in, when she decided to sit down and relax. She sat there for a rather long time, as it slowly became dark. She had fallen asleep under a very large tree, and when she woke, it was pitch black. She didn't remember how she had gotten there, or where 'there' was for that matter. She also wasn't aware of the large gash on her arm until she felt something warm and wet drip onto her bare leg. "what is that?!" she panicked. She stood up, looked around, and tried to find out which way to go. Her arm started throbbing. 'how long have I been here?' she thought to herself. She looked up at the moon, realizing it would be full the next night. Something about that made her nervous, though she had no idea why.
Riley looked for the way out, and found it quicker than she thought she would. She walked down the road, back towards her house. The most peculiar thing happened- her wound seemed to be slowly healing itself. She knew she was magic, but this was ridiculous. She finally arrived at home, happy to see that it was earlier than it seemed. Everyone was still awake. Her parents were used to her being out all day- she often went to the park with her friends or alone to read books. She hid her left arm from them, and hurried to the bathroom. She carefully washed the dried blood off her arm to reveal the scars of what looked extremely like… bite marks. She wondered why in the world she wouldn't have felt something like this, and then thought maybe she had been put in some sort of trance… something very bad, and the next night she would realize how terrible this cursed bite mark really is.
Of course she had to tell her parents, how could she keep her monstrous self hidden? At first they were terrified, and upset, who could blame them? She didn't want to hurt anyone, so her parents set up a room in the basement she could stay in on that moon lit night, every month. Her father sent an owl to his brother, Severus Snape, to see if he knew any potions to help. He did, and he graciously sent a bottle for Riley every month.
