"Why didn't you let me order what I wanted?" Parker asked as she stared down at her salad before looking up at Nate. It didn't help that Eliot was to her left eating a delicious hamburger. It didn't help that they were on a con to take down a cook and she was starving. Her part was to play as a model, but she didn't like the diet as it was going. She wanted to eat what she wanted to eat instead of the rabbit food that was placed in front of her. It also didn't help that Eliot was playing the part of a Russian mobster and was using a thick Russian accent when ordering. It also didn't help that the entire con seemed like a maze. It was complex, had far too many ways to get lost, and made her dizzy every time she tried to solve it or straighten out what they were really doing. "I'm shocked I didn't get something worse."
"Because you're actually on a con and have to eat what your mark thinks you're going to eat," Nate explained in a quiet voice for what seemed like the hundredth time. "He thinks you're a vegetarian. Therefore, you have to eat your salad. If he comes buy, you need to show that you like it. If not, then – well, push it around. We'll get you some food later."
"This is food," Sophie said as she started to eat her salad. "It's a nice leafy salad with cheese, olives, some beans, and other things. I like it."
"Sophie's right," Eliot said with a shrug as he picked up his burger to start to eat. He smiled at Parker as he did so though. He did like to annoy her. It helped with having to work with her all the time. "Besides, models don't eat."
"Hrm," Parker said as she quickly moved her hand and forked one of Eliot's fries. She ate it happily as Eliot glowered at her. "What? I'm a thief."
Nate just laughed at that. He was amazed that Parker surprised him every day. Even though the cons were mazes that she couldn't find her way out of, she was the maze that he couldn't figure out at all. He didn't mind about his maze, just as she didn't mind about her. They would meet in the middle and lead each other out when it was time. That time just never came before Sterling caught them all.
