Say What?

The four trudged wearily across a seemingly never ending savannah. There wasn't a tree in sight, and for once, Jack wished there was. The relentless sun beat down upon the four, making them irritable. Daniel was mumbling to himself, just loudly enough to drive Jack- who was walking closest to him- mad.

"Danny, shut up." Jack decided to try the 'nice' approach. It worked for all of ten minutes, and the muttering began again.

"For crying out loud, Daniel! Be quiet." Jack's thin thread of patience finally seemed to have snapped. Daniel stopped talking, and gave Jack more than a few sulky looks.

They walked on for twenty minutes before Jack decided to call a halt, and everyone stopped happily, grateful for the break.

This time, Jack decided to walk next to Sam, who was looking redder by the second. Her fair skin didn't agree with the sun on the planet, despite many applications of sun block.

"How you doing, Carter?" Jack asked

She smiled with fake sweetness and said "Fine, sir."

He tried to get her to talk, and she answered him with monosyllabic grunts. Finally, frustrated, he drifted back to walk with Daniel and Teal'c.

Daniel was still muttering happily about the ruins they'd seen, and even the usually stoic Teal'c looked fed up. As Teal'c watched Jack approach, a look of mild relief crossed his face. Maybe Jack could get Daniel to shut up.

They walked, the landscape around them un-changing. Each was getting more and more irritable with every passing step. Daniel had started talking again, driving everyone to distraction. It was just a matter of who would snap first.

Surprisingly, it wasn't Jack.

Sam stopped, forcing everyone to stop with her.

"Daniel, shut the fuck up, okay?" she snapped. Her sunburn was killing her.

The team stared in shock at Carter. Had they really heard her say what they just thought? They had.

Poor Danny flushed, "Sorry Sam. I didn't realize I was annoying you that much." He didn't sound that sorry.

He walked quickly off, leaving the two other men looking at Sam. Jack in mild amazement. He'd heard her swear before, but this was something else. Teal'c looked confused.

"O'Neill, what is a fuck?"

For once, Jack was lost for words.
