Short One-Shot about Serena van der Woodsen & Lillan Bass (van der Woodsen). Enjoy ( :

"I will not make the same mistake that you did ..." – Because of You, Kelly Clarkson

Serena looked on as her mother recited her vows to her fourth husband, normally Serena cried at weddings, they were usually so touching and emotional for her, not this time. This time all she could think of was how long until she'd be sat here again, listening to her mother promises, which she'd only break within the next year.

This wedding was just another distraction to Lily, just another way to avoid being lonely - if only for a while. They never stayed - the men she so claimed loved - they always left.

Each and every time leaving her mother a mess. A mess she was expected to sort, because after all she is the oldest. Eric wouldn't know what to say when his mother cried and cried over wedding photos, her grandmother's word would be no comfort after all who find comfort in hearing about how stupid they'd been. Serena was the only one left. Therefore she was expected to carry her mother home when she was too wasted to do so herself, it was her job to make sure that her mother got out of bed every morning a presented herself as a good mother to the UES. It just all fell on her to take care of her broken mother and drop everything else.

So when the priest asked if anyone had any objects to why these two should be wed, nobody could really blame her if she stood up and out spoke. Nobody but her mother.

The disappointment in Lily's eyes would kill her. Who was Serena to take away this moment from her? Even if it was only for a few months her mother would be happy. She'd be there, she'd give her advice - which Serena wouldn't take but would wish she had later - she'd just be her mom again.

Maybe it was selfish of Serena to want that, maybe it wasn't, either way Serena couldn't bring herself to be the one to cause another one of Lily's downward spirals. She just sat back, her palms sweaty, her heart thumping in her chest painfully, her throat dry and she waited for her mother to say it again.

For the forth time.

"I do."

Please R&R, it only take a minute or two.
