Finally Family

"Mama!" Five year old Evie exclaimed, running up to her mum.

"Hello, bella! How was school?" Asked Nikki, giving her little girl a hug.

"Good, I taught my friend how to count to ten in Spanish." Evie replied.

One year after Mexico, a few months after they became a couple, Jack and Nikki returned to Mexico to see how the Reunited project was doing.

At the church of the lost, a little girl had been sat down, crying. After that, Nikki and Jack had adopted her, and named her Evie, in Eva's honour.

A few months after Evie was adopted, Nikki has discovered that she was pregnant.

None months later, Oscar Thomas Alexander-Hodgson was born.

He was now 3 months old, and doing great.

Evie had just started school, and was also doing well.

Jack made his way into the office, Oscar in his arms. "Hey, Nik."

"Hello, you two!" Nikki said happily, standing up to kiss her partner and son.

Evie meanwhile skipped off to find Clarissa.

Clarissa was at her desk, trying to recreate a hit and run with dash cam footage. She looked up at the sound of footsteps. "Oh, hi Evie! How was school?" She asked, quickly closing her laptop.

"Good. What are you doing?" The little girl asked.

"Erm, how about a cup of tea and a biscuit?" Clarissa suggested, making her way to the kitchen.

"How's he been?" Asked Nikki, rocking Oscar.

"Bit fussy this morning, went down for his nap fine." Smiled Jack. "Evie fell over and scraped her knee earlier, her teacher said that she jumped straight back up again and made her way to the medical room to get a plaster."

"Ahh, clever girl." Smiled Nikki.

Although she'd only be in Nikki and Jack's care less than a year, Evie's English was good and she'd already seen a couple of bodies-by accident, of course, but whenever she fell over she wasn't fazed, and already knew all the names of organs and bones in the human body.

Nikki and Jack made their way into the kitchen, where Clarissa was nursing a coffee and Evie was nibbling on a chocolate biscuit.

Nikki and Jack alternated childcare between them, both of them had reduced their work to part-time. They were in the process of adopting another child from Mexico-Evie's cousin, 6 year old Samuel.

"Can I hold Oscar?" Asked Evie, sitting on an easy chair.

"Of course, sweetie." Said Nikki, placing the baby on her daughter's lap. "Be careful with your brother."

Evie chatted to Oscar in a mix of English and Spanish, whilst Jack caught up on the work he'd missed.

Nikki sat back, admiring the view. Adopting Evie had been hard, but she was safer in the UK than Mexico. She and Jack had struggled to conceive Oscar, and both of them had cried when one of countless pregnancy tests had come back positive.

This was her life now, and she wouldn't change it for the world.
