Day Four
"Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same."
-Flavia Weedn
"Diamond, diamond are you all in the sky?
I can't believe all of these beautiful lights
As they surround me I will take a photograph of the sky
Bury me, bury me
Come on, bury me alone in the light"
-Isles and Glaciers "Viola Lion"
She couldn't believe that it had already been that long. It felt so much longer - like ages and ages had passed. To Daphne, it seemed as if it had just been a dream, a fantasy, but she knew better. She could still feel the imprint that Fred had made on her heart so long ago.
That day. That fateful day when it had felt like the sky itself had crashedcrashedcrashed down, destroying everything and everyone that she had cared about. So many people were lost.
She had stayed that night at Hogwarts to finally prove once and for all where her loyalties were - along with her younger sister. They were Slytherins, yes, but they were no cowards. Daphne had stayed, had fought, had lost. No, not her life but her heart.
FredFredFred - her precious Fred - her brave lion had fallen in battle. When she heard the news she had let out a blood-curdling scream - a lioness in pain. Her warrior, her protector, her love was deaddeadeadgonegonegone - f o r e v e r.
Now, she sat on the mossy grass outside of her home on the tenth anniversary of the battle. Daphne did this twice a year, every year. Her dark blue eyes scanned the sky, looking at each and every shining star just like she used to do with Fred. These two nights - the anniversary of the battle and Fred's birthday - were the days that she lived for. She could almost feel Fred's presence; it was almost like he was sitting down beside her just like old times. Almost.
Daphne lived only so she could cherish the memories that she had with that Weasley twin. She had nothing else, nothing that mattered; she never got married, she never had children of her own, she never saw her family. She was so very a l o n e, holding onto only bittersweet memories of her teenage years.
Fred - her jokester - her star in the dark sky had been the only person from Gryffindor who had given her the time of day. Their meeting at the Quidditch World Cup could not have been just a chance - it had to have been destiny, fate. Sometimes fate was so, so cruel but sometimes it was so very kind. For Daphne, it was as kind as it could get. It had brought Fred to her and it would someday bring her to Fred. All she had to do now was wait - wait until she was reunited with her shining star.
The lyrics above belong to the amazing band Isles and Glaciers! I really suggest that you check out that song!
