This is my first attempt at writing to this pairing. So be nice.
Blue Salvias normally say- 'I'm thinking of you'
There was something to be said about falling in love with your best friend. He already knows everything there is to know about you. There are no secrets between the two of you'll, because he's your best friend, you tell him everything. Well, almost everything. Telling him you've fallen for him takes some consideration, because you really can't lose him, just in case he doesn't. But if he does, my, are you in for the best ride of your life.
Mind you, not all is a bed of Roses. The first date is normally a nightmare. Awkward glances, food disasters, and then there is the whole 'what do we talk about?' question. I mean, the first date normally means you get to know the other person, test the waters, so to speak. If you've already taken an underwater tour, there isn't much left to see.
Stella Bonasera thought back to the day of her first date with her best friend.
'So……' were the words out of Stella's mouth.
'So……' Mac imitated her.
They were both seated at a small but classy restaurant in New York, awaiting their orders.
'Did you manage to close your case?' she asked brightly inwardly cringing at the formality in her voice. He's you best friend Stella, act like you normally do around him. Except, she couldn't remember how that was.
'Yeah, we managed to catch our suspect in the act.' He sounded equally formal.
Thus, the evening continued. When she went to bed that night, she had been almost convinced that it had been a bad idea to even try dating Mac Taylor. Of course, all that changed wean she walked into work that day. She noticed that Mac wasn't in his office, as she passed by. She entered her office, to find a cup of her favorite coffee beside a blue Salvia, sitting on her desk. She smiled, back to being on cloud nine. Things went well from then on.
But there are the good parts too, like how he knows exactly how you take your coffee, when your feeling down and just want a hug, or when you've worked so hard and haven't taken a break, somehow there will always be a sandwich of some sort waiting for you on your desk.
In their line of duty, too, being in love with your best friend could have mixed consequences. The downside, if something happened to the other, you not just losing the love of your life, you're also losing your best friend. Of course, the upside is that it makes explaining your excessive concern for your partner a whole lot easier.
But the best part of being in love with your best friend was that you knew almost exactly what they were thinking. For instance, like now. I have got to be the luckiest woman in the whole world, Stella thought, as she sat staring at the single Calla Lily surrounded by twenty four roses, six each of the colors, Red, lavender, and White sitting on her desk. She knew what his question was.
She walked back to his office, leant against his doorway, waiting for him to look up. When he did so, she said the one word that would be responsible for the smile that would stay on his face for the rest of his life.
'Yes'
