DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN SOUL EATER OR THIS SONG. I HEARD IT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN TWELVE YEARS TODAY ON THE RADIO, IT WAS A LULLABY MY GRANDFATHER SANG TO ME WHEN I WAS LITTLE AND IT STORMED.
She felt foolish as she huddled shaking in the fetal position next to his door. Lighting reflected in terror filled green eyes as thunder shook the small apartment. It took her whole thought process to keep quiet as the storm continued to get louder and more violent. Sure, she could fight giant monsters and a kishin lord. But storms just ruined her to defeat. She squeaked as another flashed signaled the loud crash of thunder above their shared home. Strong arms gently wrapped around her small form as her partner's red eyes appeared before her.
"S-Soul," she asked as he nuzzled her neck.
"Come on angel," he whispered gently lifting her to his bed. Maka Albarn squished herself into his chest as he chuckled at her antics. Her eyes widened when soft singing met her ears.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
Her eyes closed as he rubbed calming circles on her lower back. His embrace was giving off a feeling of safety as the storm grew even fiercer as it got closer.
The other night, dear
As I lay sleeping
I dreamt I held you, in my arms
When I awoke, dear I was mistaken
And I hung my head, and cry
She felt warm as he repeated the chorus in her ear. He had a wonderful baritone voice that sounded like hunny. Her soul clung to him as he began to rock her back and forth in his arms.
I'll always love you, and make you happy
If you will only say the same
But if you leave me, to love another
You'll regret it all someday
She had no clue when she had begun to whisper the song with him. but the tune was doing the trick as the storm was long since forgotten by her even though it still lingered outside. Proof, pounding the ceiling and window pane.
You told me once dear, you really loved me
And no-one else could come between
And now you've left me, to love another
You have shattered all my dreams
For some reason, this little part was getting to her as tears fell silently down her face, only to be wiped away by Soul's thumb.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine...
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
Sleep had begun to creep into her system as she fought to remain awake.
"Sleep my sunshine, I love you." Soul whispered kissing her lips. She mumbled a reply hearing Soul's soft laughter as sleep finally won her over.
