Again, I don't own Doctor Who, If I did the new season would already be out :) SPOILERS FOR THE WATERS OF MARS AND PRECEDING EPISODES; continue reading at your own risk. Enjoy! :)
No more would the universe take the people he cared about from him! He was a Time Lord and time was his to shape and change as he saw fit! The Doctor had spent decades, no, centuries protecting the human race, planet Earth, the entire, stupid universe, and now the universe could damn well give him something in return for all those who were lost to him; everything he had sacrificed for the good of others! The universe, that took everything from him; his people, his family, his entire planet, Sarah-Jane, Rose, Joan, Martha, Astrid, Donna...so many others there names dimmed by time, but there memory still burning strong in the Doctor's mind, the pain of their loss still tearing through his hearts. Not this time. Not Adelaide. Not Adelaide, because he would save her.
...And the Doctor ran, his own death was foretold, and he had become that most dangerous being in the universe; the man with nothing left to lose...
He went too far, tried to change more than was his right to change; too drunk with power, to desperate to save Adelaide, to save himself, that he did not see the mortal danger he was in. The Doctor realized, to late now, that his own actions sealed the fate predicted for him. He was too powerful now, perilously close to becoming the dark and vengeful god he feared to recognize in himself. It was time for him to die and there was nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, but that would not stop him from trying.
...And the Doctor ran, to save himself he ran.
