He watched her as she walked with Naruto, hand in hand, smiles spread across their faces, and their eyes glowing with ever so happiness.
And that's when she caught his gaze, her emerald-like eyes suddenly growing dull and pale of color.
She paused in the middle of the street, causing Naruto to nearly stumble in front of her, to look at him with regret and sadness.
Then the memories began to hit him all over again.
"Kakashi! Please ... don't leave me."
Sakura clung onto him like a little child holding onto his or her parent's hand. She dug her face into his chest and wrapped him in her embrace while her tears poured onto him.
He forced himself to ignore her sorrow and pried her off of him, immediately continuing to walk out of the North Main Gate for his year-long mission.
"Kakashi, please don't go. Don't leave the village. Don't leave your friends. Don't leave me hanging!" she cried as she collapsed onto her knees. "If you do, then there is a chance I would never see you again..."
"Sakura."
He pulled her up and gripped onto her chin, his thumb stroking her soft skin. He glared at her with his single onyx eye as he tried to hold back the tears that were attempting to overcome him.
"I have never loved you."
He closed his eye and opened it again, only to find Sakura and Naruto long gone.
Away from sight.
Away from him.
His hands clenched into a ball and he kicked a trash can over, frustrated from all of the pain he had caused her.
"I have never loved you."
He had always loved her no matter what.
But it was for her own good.
If she were to love a broken being like him, she would have ended up just like him as of how he did many years ago.
Sakura could never love a monster like him.
Someone of no use. Someone who never actually cared.
But he had always loved her, no matter how many times she and him had their conflicts.
He had always loved her and would always will.
But what's done is done, and he can't take that moment back.
