Dreaming of Tacos
It was the one year anniversary of Dustfinger's death and Farid's enslavement. Yes, they did not occur on the same day, but it was on said day that Farid became a prisoner. A captive of guilt. A captive of sorrow. A captive of determination. Forever a captive of Orpheus, the man who played God for Dustfinger.
Meggie trudged to Farid's residence, off to dry the tears she knew would come. She looked to the sky, once again praying for everything to be okay. She stared at the horizon a moment longer than usual, noting the perfectly colored sky and clouds.
Martens chased after mice, fairies snatched at her hair. Everything was so calm and ordinary for this to be the day Dustfinger died one year ago. Meggie shrugged off her suspicions as she approached Orpheus's door. The door stood, silent, dark, and foreboding. She knocked on the hard wood timidly, as if it would swallow her whole if she pushed harder.
The sight that greeted her was very unexpected. Farid stood in the doorway dressed in an apron and a party hat.
"Farid!" Meggie exclaimed. "Don't you know what day it is?"
"Of course, Meggie. But just this morning Dustfinger appeared in my room. The White Women let him go! They had tired of his routine and brought him to life! Come celebrate with us Meggie!" Shocked yet euphoric, the blond teen entered the small house, searching frantically for their long-lost friend.
And there he stood, exactly as she remembered him, scarred face and all. He sent a smirk of a smile her way and continued eating his taco. At the time, it didn't occur to her that there were no tacos in Inkworld.
She and Farid feasted on cake, tacos, and ravioli until they were full to bursting.
Later in the evening, Farid took Meggie's hand and led her outside.
"Meggie," he began. His hand went into his pocket to retrieve a small box."I love you. Will you marry me?" He opened the box and presented a beautiful silver ring. Small rubies circled a piece of silver in the middle. A gold streak ran through the band. "Please Meggie. It would mean the world to me."
Meggie squealed with joy as he placed the ring on her finger. A perfect fit. "Of course I will, Farid!" She jumped into his lap and placed a kiss on his lips.
They reentered the cottage hand in hand. Orpheus strutted to Farid and sneered at him. "What do you think you're doing, you filthy pig?"
Farid released his grip on Meggie's hand and punched Cheeseface so hard the man fell to the floor unconscious.
Our favorite trio, Dustfinger, Meggie, and Farid, made their great escape from the building.
Dustfinger suddenly stopped and pointed towards the west. Meggie looked in that direction doing a double-take at what she saw. People were dancing in the air with pink and purple polka-dotted hippos.
That's not right... she thought.
Meggie jerked awake in her bed, both relieved and upset that it was all just a dream. Relieved that people weren't floating with hippos. Upset that Dustfinger was still dead and Farid wasn't her husband.
Because in all actuality, her deepest desires were but dreams and her worst nightmares were reality.
A/N: Ok. I really hoped you liked it. That was my weird humor kicking in at the end. Please review. I might continue this, but I'm not sure if I should. If I get enough encouragement, then I will. So there's yet another reason why you should review.
Suggestions are welcome, reviews are love.
