AN: This is the first fanfic I've written in forever, but I was watching Santa's Secret Stuff a few hours ago and didn't think it was right that Rory didn't write something for Luke. So here it is.
Disclaimer: I don't own Gilmore Girls. If I did, there'd be a movie and the series would probably still be going right now.
Luke sat with a smile on his face after hearing Lorelai's letter. He sat reflecting on all the times he had spent with Rory, and was glad it had meant as much to them as it had to him.
"We have another letter here from a Rory Gilmore," the judge said, to Luke's surprise.
"Uh, no, I just have the one from Lorelai," Luke corrected.
"There are two letters," she stated firmly before reading it aloud.
"To Whom It May Concern:
Luke Danes was never my father, but at times it really felt like he was. My father wasn't around much for my childhood, coming in and out whenever it suited him until recently. But Luke was always there. When I had the chicken pox, Luke made me the only food I would eat—mashed potatoes. He came to the funeral I threw for my caterpillar. He made me a coffee cake on my sixteenth birthday, he was at my high school graduation, he helped me move into my dorm, and he came to my rescue when I felt like I was worthless.
Luke doesn't know how important he's been to me. Whenever I remember the big moment's in my life, he's usually in close association. When I broke up with my first boyfriend, he protected me. When I transferred to private school, I went to have breakfast at his diner and he saw me off with my mother. When I got my college acceptance letters, he hugged me and said he was proud of me. Every birthday and Christmas, Luke never failed to buy me a present that he thought I might like. My own dad usually ended up sending cards or presents at least a month or two late.
No matter what his relationship with my mother was, Luke was always there when I needed him. To deprive his daughter of that, it wouldn't be right or fair. It would most certainly not be in her best interest. I know what it's like to know who your dad is and not have him be around, and it's absolutely heartbreaking. Luke has the biggest heart I've ever encountered, and he's willing to do anything to help the people he loves. He gives his love unconditionally, and to be on the other end of that love is the best feeling. I've seen Luke and April together, and I can say honestly that he has given her a part of his heart and she has done the same. She needs him, just like I've needed him.
Sincerely,
Rory Gilmore"
