a/n: so the movie comes out in a few days and i saw the prompt for the yuri festival thing so here it is, a week late.
Kumiko hadn't been quite sure what Reina had meant when she had showed up on the other girl's doorstep with a picnic basket and a rolled-up blue blanket, but Kumiko didn't question it, taking Reina's hand and waving her mother goodbye as the two walked down the sidewalk. Reina was walking at a faster pace than usual, her dress swishing as she hurried down the pavement.
"W-what's the hurry?" Kumiko asked, barely managing to catch up.
"We can't miss it," Reina replied, stopping to pull off her high heels and run the rest of the way to the park barefoot. Kumiko had learned not to question her motives at this point, instead just running alongside her. Reina breathed a sigh of relief once the two reached the park, stepping onto the grass with an audible moan. "Your parents won't be concerned with you being out late, correct?"
"They like you, Reina. I don't think they're under the impression that you'd take me anywhere dangerous."
"Good." Reina ran up the hill with her feet lightly pat-pat-patting along the soft grass. She looked like a fairy or an otherworldly spirit in the moonlight, her dress positively glowing and her hair flowing out behind her. Reina rolled out the blanket at the top of the hill and sat down on it, patting the space next to her. Kumiko sat down.
"So, uh, is t-this a moonlight picnic or something?"
"I suppose you could call it that, yes."
"What'd y-you want me to see, then? Or is this another one of your confessions of love?" Kumiko playfully prodded the other girl with her elbow. Reina remained stoic, her gaze fixed up at the stars.
"This." Kumiko looked up and gasped. A thousand twinkles danced across the velvety night sky, beautifully glowing for hardly a second before they blinked out of existence.
"It's amazing," Kumiko breathed.
"Make a wish," Reina whispered, the stars reflected in her eyes.
"W-would it be too cheesy if I said that all I could wish for is right here?"
"Yes." Reina leaned in to kiss Kumiko on the cheek. "Absolutely terrible, really. Regardless, I suppose the sight of such a wondrous meteor shower is enough to make anyone act somewhat sappy. Even myself, admittedly." Kumiko squeezed Reina's hand, and the other girl pulled her in to close the distance between their lips. The stars glowed overhead on the pelt of purple sky, the world turned on, but to the two girls, the whole world was contained on that blue blanket in the park, sharing a tiny moment that meant more than any outsider could possibly know.
