As McCormick pulled the Corvette around and parked it at the foot of the steps, Hardcastle exited the house and came toward the car.

"You sure this is a friendly cop we're seeing?" asked Mark, as he started to open the driver's door.

"How friendly's a cop gonna be when you're admitting to two car thefts in twenty-four hours?" The judge saw the unhappy expression across from him, then waved him back behind the wheel. "You think you can handle this car okay?"

McCormick looked at him in disbelief, then grinned. "Yeah, I think so."

"Fine, then let's get going."
