Irgendwas bleibt

Something stays

It was loud and hard to breathe. Bullets flew around, tearing through flesh and spraying the colour of blood. Once proud buildings stood in rumbles and frightened screams filled the air. But no one heard, for the sounds of guns firing deafened the wailing of innocent people hiding in the underground shelters.

Italy prayed for the safety of the people, not only for his people fighting alongside the Germans, but also those that didn't do anything. To children who lost their father and mother, sisters, brothers and cousins. He prayed for their safety and for the war to end soon.

He knew that the world is moving fast and had forgotten how to endure the temptation of power. Just like his grandfather Rome, the Holy Roman Empire and now… Germany. But it will be alright. Germany promised, promised that once the war is over, everything will be alright. Everything will still be the same. The wonderful times of being with each other, everything will stay the same because all the good memories are timeless.

Germany always protected him, gave him safety in an unstable world. They were always together through thick and thin and he gave him something that stayed the same.

That's why…

That's why he has to find him in this chaos called a battlefield. That's why he ran with all his might, dodged bullets and took them without stopping from his sprint. He has to stay strong.

For Germany, for his friend, for their memories.

For something that stays the same.

Irgendwas, das bleibt.

AN: Inspired by a German band called Silbermond. The song is called 'Irgendwas bleibt'. I really like the song and suggest that you listen and watch the official music video. Seriously, it practically screamed GerIta when I watched it today! I knew the song longer, but during those times I wasn't that enamoured with Hetalia. Lol, right now, everything that I see that has the countries names written on it make me think of Hetalia. The lyrics are really touching, and I suggest, no DEMAND that you find out the meaning of the lyrics if you don't understand German.
