Prologue
In the Beginning…
When the Higher Power created the universe, he felt happy with his accomplishment. This happiness eventually wore itself out, and he decided to fill one of his newly formed planets with life, hoping to turn his small spark of happiness into a great flame. His new creations, however, were very basic and showed no emotion at all. The Higher Power then took a step forward and created several large monsters that roamed the planet, dominating all of the plant life that he had created.
Unhappy with these beings, he commanded them to stop their domination and forced them into hiding. He then created much smaller beings that roamed the lands, coexisting with nature and, in some cases, blending with it. The Higher Power was extremely happy with these creatures and decided to increase their learning capacity in the hopes that their love for nature would grow with their intelligence.
These new creatures, which called themselves humans, loved nature for a long time. After about 4000 years, however, the humans became too self conscious and egotistical, believing themselves to be the greatest of the Higher Power's creatures, which they called "Pokémon". To prove their superiority, the humans created technologically advanced capsule devices, which they called "Pokéballs", which were designed to capture and tame wild Pokémon. The Higher Power was disgusted at the humans' narcissism and granted the Pokémon special powers in order to help them fight the humans.
Over time, the Pokémon grew used to the humans and accepted them as a superior race. This caused the Higher Power to give up on his creation and work toward another universe. For another 8000 years, humans and Pokémon lived in peace, working and playing together.
In the year 1995 on the planet Earth, a man named Satoshi Tajiri created a franchise based on the idea of the Pokémon and the humans' hobby of capturing and training them as pets. This franchise was huge, going on for fourteen years and consisting of four completely different generations of video games, which depicted a world frighteningly parallel to what the Higher Power had created in the other universe. For two teenagers living in the United States, the lines between reality and fiction are about to be blurred forever…
