AN: Hello again! This is my first submission for Project PULL! For anyone who doesn't know what this fabulous idea is, check out my profile for the link. It is definitely worth looking into.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. I simply enjoy playing with the characters and plotlines.
Dear Diary,
I turned 11 yesterday! I had the bestest party ever and everyone was there. Grandmum, Aunt Olive and Uncle Jack with Ed and Laura, even my best friends from school, Lottie, Moira and Marguerite. There was a big chocolate cake with pink icing and pink candles. We played games and we danced and then I opened my presents. There were so many! Mummy and Daddy bought me a new purple bicycle and the books I wanted about Celeste the witch and her elf friend. Marguerite said that they were really good and I can't wait to read them! Aunt Olive and Uncle Jack bought me the Little Mermaid on video and an Ariel doll. Laura and Eddie gave me a Sebastian and a Flounder stuffed animal. I keep them on my bed so I can sleep with them! The girls all got me clothes and barrettes. Lottie even gave me a make up case with real lipstick! Daddy told me I'm not allowed to use it yet though.
But my two favourite gifts came from Grandmum. She got me a telescope so I can watch the stars at night and binoculars so I can watch the sky by day and the animals in the forest when we go camping or visit her in the country.
I was out in the garden with my binoculars all morning. Daddy laughed when I told him that I woke up early to go outside, but I couldn't wait. It was a sunny morning (it's raining now) and I had fun watching the squirrels and the birds in the huge tree outside.
It was the funniest thing though. I thought that owls only come out at night but there was a big flock of them flying when the sun was out. When I asked Mummy why, she got really scared and made me come inside. She told me to go play in my room and be a good girl but I heard her talking on the telephone with Aunt Olive. She sounded scared again and asked if Uncle Jack and my cousins were safe. I didn't understand the rest of what she said but it was something about owls during the day ten years ago and Grandpa dying. The she yelled that seeing owls isn't a super-sision and begged Aunt Olive to be careful before she hung up.
She was on the sofa crying, so I went and gave her a big hug. It always cheers me up when she gives me hug when I'm scared or sad. When she stopped crying I asked her what was wrong and she said that it was because of something that happened when I was a baby.
It was just a day after Halloween and, like today, there were many owls flying in the sky during the day. She said that it is very unlucky when that happens, but she didn't believe it when Grandpa told her. She laughed and teased him that it was only an old wives tale. A few hours later, he was on his way to the grocers when he had a heart attack and died. She was scared that something might happen because of the owls.
I didn't know what to do, but I promised to be a good girl and be careful and that I would look out for Lydia, too. She climbed out of her cot last week and fell to the floor. I was glad she wasn't hurt, but I don't think I want to help by changing her nappies.
I think the owls gave their bad luck to someone else this time, because nothing bad happened today and it is already 8 o' clock. I hope that everyone is okay!
Mummy just came in and told me that it is time for my bath so I've got to go now.
Love,
Evangeline
