Revenge

The trees whisper in the wind as I silently followed Atticus's children. As I followed them, I thought about how much I wanted revenge. I had drunk earlier and the idea occurred to me. Why don't I just attack what he loves most? After all, Atticus was as sick as a moldy peanut butter sandwich out in the sun on a hot summer day and he deserved to feel pain for what he did to me. Oh, how Atticus would feel so much pain to see his children dead. It would be so sweet to see that. After all he did make me lose my credibility at the trial.

As I followed the boy and the girl, the boy said something to the girl and they stopped. I stopped with them. I was close enough to hear what the kids were saying.

"Hear anything?" the boy asked. So they heard me. Or at least the boy did. He has senses like a falcon. I followed them for less than five paces when the kids stopped again. I couldn't hear exactly what the girl said but she called the boy Jem so I assumed that was his name. I think Jem heard my footsteps again. Jem said something to his sister. I think he told his sister to be quiet. I waited quietly as the kids talked to each other in hushed voices, then began walking again. I followed with growing anticipation. The kids slowed down. From what I heard Jem say as they were slowly walking was that they thought a boy named Cecil Jacobs was following them. Ha! If only they knew.

A few moments later the girl suddenly turned around and yelled out, "Cecil Jacobs is a big wet he-en!" I sniggered softly. If only they knew who was really following them… The kids stopped and waited for an answer.

When nobody replied, Jem yelled, "He-y!" I was trying hard not to laugh. When nobody answered that, Jem muttered something to his sister that I couldn't hear. He talked to her for a bit while walking really slowly. I snuck up closer to the kids to get ready. I had my switchblade in my hand ready to use. It was only when they stopped near the big oak when I attacked.

Jem was the first one to notice me. He screamed to his sister, "Run, Scout! Run! Run!" I smiled and thought, oh no, she's not going anywhere.

The girl, who I now know is called Scout, took one giant step and lost her balance screaming, "Jem, Jem, help me, Jem!"

I laughed, then I jumped on her and tried to squeeze her, but ended up crushing the chicken wire. I fought Jem and eventually threw him on the ground. I saw Jem trying to get onto the road with Scout so I jerked Jem's hand that wasn't holding Scout's and jerked him onto the ground. I then stomped on his arm, his arm broke with a dull crunching sound. Jem screamed, then passed out.

Scout had heard his screams and ran into my stomach, causing me to say, "Uff!" I tightly pinioned her arms and then slowly squeezed the breath out of her. I would have killed her but then out of nowhere, a pale man whom I've never seen before jerked me backwards and flung me onto the ground. He held a kitchen knife. I fought him with all my might. It actually looked like that I might win, but then he stabbed me between the ribs with his knife. Then everything faded out into darkness. I never found out who the man was.
