Title: Misery
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Danny Williams x Steve McGarrett
Misery
It had been two weeks since he had left the 'Dear Danno' letter for him to read.
A letter he read over and over again. He analyzed and memorized every word of it.
Dear Danno, (Why must he insist on using that nickname?)
I need to take some time off to get away from work. (Made sense because it could get tiring being shot at all the time)
Also need some time away from you. (He was kidding right?)
It's for the best. (Like hell it was)
-McGarrett
He carried the letter with him, crumbled up in his pocket. A reminder that he shouldn't have gotten attached to Steve. He knew better knowing he would end up being heartbroken but he did it anyways. (He liked to torture himself that way)
Work was hard without Steve. Danny took over the leader role of the team. (Despite his efforts to have Chin take control) He found himself easily becoming angry at the smallest things. He was sure that if no one was there to stop him, a lot of suspects would had been in the ground. Danny liked going by the book but his anger turned him into a very irrational person.
He had found himself in front of Steve's house. (He didn't remember even driving there). He used the extra key Steve gave him to go inside. He wandered around; it smelled very much like Steve. He wasn't sure what he was doing. (Was he ever sure?)
He heard the front door open. He froze in place. (He was back?) He heard footsteps go through the house before Steve finally came into site. He stopped, his eyes wide in surprised, "Oh hey, Danno."
Danny stood there, staring back at him, his brow furrowed. He crossed his arms but remained silent. Steve looked around the room as if he was finding the words he wanted to say next, "What are you doing here?" He smiled a bit despite seeing the frustration in Danny's face.
"I was seeing if you were back." Danny said simply in an irritated tone.
"Well, here I am…" Steve said as he walked by to get to his bedroom.
Danny just stood there in the hallway. Listening as Steve set his bag down.
"Was there anything else?" Steve asked from his bedroom.
(Anything else? Of course there was.) Danny chewed on the inside of his cheek in annoyance, he was unsure how to respond to such a vague and hurtful question. (Hurtful in the sense it sounded as if Steve wanted him to leave)
"Where were you?" Danny finally asked.
"Out." Steve said as he left his room and looked at Danny standing there.
Danny looked back at him, not in the mood for his games, "Out with her, huh?"
"Are you jealous, Danno?"
"Don't' call me that."
"Well, are you?"
"It doesn't matter."
"I think it does." Steve shot back. (Why was he so persistent?)
"You know what?" Danny dropped his hands to his side, "Forget it. Forget that I was even here…"
"Fine." Steve said as Danny walked down the hallway. He stopped midway and went into his pants pocket. He took out the 'Dear Danno' letter and dropped it on the ground, "There is your sad excuse for a letter…"
With that he left. Steve stood there, a bit confused as to what just happened. Did they just get into a fight? (Of course he knew in the back of his mind it was).
The following day he realized that he shouldn't have acted the way he did. He should have told Danny the truth from the start. Now it seemed to be too late. On his desk was Danny's own letter. A letter of transfer.
