She sighed lightly as Sasuke held out a single arm, refusing to meet Sakura's eyes as he cleared his throat.
They'd been travelling all day now, hiding under the canopy until the sun retreated to protect their daughter's sensitive skin. But the baby was irritable, still not used to the constant movement and never being allowed out of her swaddle.
Although it wasn't the ideal environment, Sakura was happy. She was with her husband and her child who she created out of love with Sasuke, her family. As the sun went down, Sarada had stared to squirm, squeezing her little eyes shut and scrunching up her face. Before she could let out a screech though, Sakura spoke to her, calming her baby down with just the touch of her voice. To Sasuke, she only had to nod once before he vanished to gather something for dinner. On any other day, Sakura would have been finished with tending to Sarada before he returned, but this time, he came back a little sooner.
After setting up the camp ground and getting a steady fire started, he'd turned to Sakura just before she was re-swaddling Sarada. He hesitated at first, but then quickly sputtered out that he'd caught a wild turkey and that she was better at preparing it than he was. She only raised an eyebrow in response.
"It can't be helped so I can hold Sarada."
And at that, she burst out laughing, startling the baby on her lap. Sarada looked at her mother as if she was personally victimized, but it didn't last long until she became captivated by Sakura's soft pink hair as her mother shook her head. It was a very pretty pink, but she could never quite reach it.
Sakura let out a small sigh, eyeing Sasuke as he held out an open hand and an extended arm. "If you wanted to hold her, you could have just said so."
He cleared his throat just loud enough to let her know that the offer was still there, hanging in the air, and that he had nothing else to say about the matter.
"Come here then," Sakura said with a hint of a tease in her tone, though it didn't faze Sasuke as he knelt down to look down at his daughter.
She became more energetic the instant his face came into view; her dark eyes were bright and her mouth parted slightly to reveal a teeny tongue. Her hands started to paw at the air, waving around aimlessly but returning to her face often and then darting back into empty space.
Sarada coo'd with impatience until Sasuke smiled, finally tapping her forehead with a single finger and tracing it down the side of her cheek. Before he could withdraw his hands, she grabbed it with her own, her small fingers tugging her father closer.
Sakura frowned as Sasuke took their child in his arms, her lips pressing into a tight line. She started push off the log to prepare dinner, but she didn't make it very far as Sasuke leaned over to kiss his wife softly. With a small humph, she turned away.
Sasuke knew she was more than happy though, just to be like this with her family.
